Carrying water bottles in the park?

We want to bring in water bottles, since it's so much cheaper. But I'm not sure how to do that without having a really heavy big backpack to lug around. I guess we'd only need to bring enough in for half the day, since we always go back for a break.

So I was just wondering how all of you go about bringing water in?

1 bottle per person and refill during the day....

buy a strap or holder to attach to your purse/waist/backpack...

purchase a day bag with a mesh bottle holder on the side....

We bring in 4 bottles in a backpack. It's really not all that heavy. The adults usually carry one in hand to drink while we're walking to the park and waiting for it to open. As I am the one that carries the backpack, I tend to make sure everyone stays well hydrated. There is incentive to drink early, drink often.

I have one of those mini-backpacks (purse-size) with the mesh bottle holders on the sides (as Chickysmom mentioned.) I can easily carry one in each mesh holder and another in the pack itself with no problem.

All of the restaurants that serve pop out of a "fountain" (counter service) will give you free cups of ice water. I recomend you do that rather then pack bottles around. They are heavy and get warm. Oh, and the water at the first aid station is the best in the park. Its cold and filtered. They have cups available as well. While you are there check out the art work. They are originals by Walt.

We brought a stroller to the park (for DS2), and put 4 water bottles and some snacks in the basket in the bottom. We also stored our sweatshirts there as the day warmed up.

(Note that some items left in strollers can be stolen. Don't leave anything in there that you value, even if it doesn't have much monetary value!)

We usually have four small bottles and refill through the day or two larger bottles. DD's carry backpacks in the park. They're usually smaller ones, but we may use a larger one this year. It's not heavy and Mom isn't the pack mule! I LOVE it!

We usually carry 5 bottles into the parks, one for each person. If they empty it, we refill at a water fountain. No, it's not the best water in the world, but it keeps you hydrated.

yeah, but they often get wet. You should get a strap to hold the water. then each kids can carry their own water

Thanks for all the tips! It's good to know that I can get free cups of water at counter service. I'm going to look in to a small backpack. There's only 3 of us so that should be good for carrying around 3 bottles (I plan to freeze them too).

We always bring water, there are 3 of us too and we have a 2 year old who drinks gallons. We usually bring in 2 bottles and her straw cup. We also go back to the hotel and will refill then if needed or put more into her cup when we go to a restaurant at DL. We refill at night and put in fridge so they are chilled for the next day. Not sure you really need to freeze them, I know we never have. Be careful if you do that you don't overfill and cause leaks, or that they're so frozen that you can't drink until they melt.

Our last trip I brought EMPTY water bottles in our luggage. They weigh much less than full water bottles and you don't have to worry about them leaking. I do put them in the middle of the suitcase so they don't get squished. Then we just filled them from the fountains in the parks & in our rooms before leaving for the day.

Wear a camelbak! We love ours! We've always got at least one, and on warm days the kids wear theirs too.

Another thing to do if you run out of water and you can't stand the taste of the park water (like me!) get those Crystal Light packets, refill your water bottle and dump in the packet, voila! No sugar or caffine so no dehydration and you get some nice flavored water!

here's a link another DISer posted to make your own water bottle holder strap....it would be fun to make a different pattern for each person in your party to help keep them straight too!

Thanks for the link, that's a great idea! I'm going to take a look at what the materials cost and see about making some water bottle holders before we leave for CA on Sat. I'm also supposed to be making a autograph book so I better get busy!

We packed a backpack full of water and snacks (and diet Pepsi of course) and lugged it around in the stroller basket. Even if they start out nearly frozen, they can get too warm (for my preference) to drink so you can ask for a cup of ice (with a lid and straw) at any counter service place! It was soooo nice to have ice cold water and drinks all day! More $$ to spend on real souvenirs!

So I was just wondering how all of you go about bringing water in?

I have a stroller and I loaded a soft side cooler with ice, bottled water, pepsi, and sandwiches. It was a bit heavy at first, but as the day wore on, I dumped the melted ice water and it was fine. I also got at the 99c store, a water bottle in a "leather" strap holder deal. (not real leather) but it's nice. I have also heard of people using a camelback but that seems extreem to me unless it's really HOT.
