Carrying bags/purses while in the park?

Hello everyone. My wife and I are taking our daughter to Disneyland at the end of April, and we are trying to plan our day-to-day things.

When I was a kid, we all wore fanny-packs to Disneyland, and kept everything in them. My wife won't be caught dead next to me wearing a fanny pack, so we've bought my wife a travel purse/satchel (like a small messenger bag) to carry everything in. (I'm not a fan of fanny-packs my self, but the benefits are undeniable).

My concern is what to do with a bag when we go on rides. The bag we bought it small enough to rest behind the small of her back, whilst strapped around her, when we're on a ride.

But does Disneyland allow small bags on most of their rides? Is there an easier solution, aside from finding a locker whenever we want to go on rides?

Rides with seat belts, your wife will probably want or need to stash her bag in the place provided in front of her seat. I'm thinking in particular of Star Tours, where they insist you put your seat belt against your body (or at least they did when I went!).

In most the rides where she can't or probably shouldn't wear a purse, she can take it off and put it at her feet or in a storage bag in the ride vehicle itself. You can actually fit as much as backpack onto every ride I can think of, except maybe Grizzly River Rapids (but that offers free lockers). So it won't be any problem to have a small bag.

Have a great trip!

On most rides it is fine, some of the higher speed rides when you are belted in or use another restraint have a pouch in front of the seat to put your stuff in.

In our family, DH wears the backpack and it fits fine on all the rides. Usually on the floor between his legs. I carry a small, light purse with a long strap that adjusts to go across my shoulders, over my shoulder, or around my waist. When on a ride, I hook it around my waist so it is attached to me. I never use those pockets on the rides because I know I'll forget it.

DLR doesn't have rides where you can't take bags on. I've kept my backpack at my feet (holding onto the top strap and squeezing the bottom with my feet) on CA Screamin' even. I just can't fit a backpack in the small mesh thing on that ride (or most rides), and don't have the time to squeeze it in, either.

Star Tours has bigger mesh things on the *bottom* of the seat, same as Soarin'; those are decent-sized.

Bumbershoot is right. I take a crossbody bag and a backpack (yeah, I don't make my girls carry their stuff) on everything. SSS, I have to leave them in a basket (am I the only one who chooses the baskets on the water side, away from the looky-loos who could easily reach over and take your stuff?), but everywhere else I take them on. On Soarin & ST, I put my bag in the basket under one of my girls' seats and the backpack under mine. GSS and GGC are both a little tight with the backpack at your feet. I've seen people at Gadget's just put it on the exit side of the ride (as there is only one train (is that the correct word? Set of cars, maybe?) so nobody will be around until they come around again). I've carried it on to Screamin' and ToT as well! :thumbsup2

we have a small Eddie Bauer packable backpack we use all the time...carry our light sweaters, water, sometimes light lunch, etc...never had a problem on any ride either holding between legs or into storage nets on various rides.
Haven't used a locker at DL in probably 20+ years;)

I plan on taking a small ugly black fanny pack.

I usually carry a messanger type back in real life and it ends up being the catch all for DH's things.

I figure I won't be able to accomidate DH's junk so when I see the must have cute handbag in DTD hubby will be all primed to buy it for me :rotfl2:

This is exactly why I carry a SMALL purse. Otherwise DH will have me hold his wallet and his keys and his sunglasses. :rotfl2:

Baggallini's are SUPER popular for traveling and with many who go to WDW.

They have many styles, including cross body bags which we prefer for park touring. You don't have to take them off for any ride. The straps adjust so you can also use them on the shoulder instead of cross body.

They tend to be smaller than you expect, so read the dimensions. I read somewhere they were invented by stewardesses. But even so, they fit the basics we need.

The biggest things I am putting in it are my cell phone, digital camera, small makeup bag, kleenex packet and if I need to I can fit a small Totes fold up umbrella. There are several inside pockets, some open and some with zippers. Places for credit cards or ID. We make sure we get a style that has complete zippers - not open top - so nothing falls out. This one has an open flat pocket on the back that is perfect for putting a park map.

My sister and I both bought the "Criss Cross Bagg" style and are very happy with it.

Hope this helps!

I totally agree!! I bring a flexible soft-sided medium backpack and it goes with me on all rides! I laughed at your explanation of how you keep it on CA Screamin', because I do the same thing!

I like having it for sunglasses, sunscreen, cell phone, wallet, etc. My kids all wear the "maybe not quite in fashion" fanny packs, but it is so helpful as that is where they keep their sunglasses, maybe a baggie of snacks and a few dollars they bring with them. The best part is I don't have to worry about them losing it and it works on all rides without having to remove it.

I must say I miss the stroller days for carrying bottled water. Beware all backpack carrying Moms out there.......everyone will want you to carry their water bottles for them. LOL :goodvibes

I too have a small sling style bag that I wear in the parks. I carry extra trading pins, my wallet, camera, phone, water bottle and a few other things with me. I have never had a problem taking it (and wearing it) on most of the rides. I do take it off when go on things like Soarin' and Star Tours but I leave it on whenever I can. :)

We carry a smallish messenger diaper bag. We haven't encountered an issue with it yet. Usually it just goes at my feet.

I bring a backpack and loop the straps thru my legs on the rides, some rides even have a holder for your stuff like Indiana Jones......just bring a trash bag with you to put it in if you on Grizzly River Run if you don't want to leave it in a cubby or your stuff will get wet

For all but our first trip, I have used a drawstring backpack. My new one has a zippered pocket on the outside and two pockets for bottles. It's great! However, he found a mickey shaped water bottle holder on a karabiner so I don't really even need to take the backpack anymore. lol

We've decided that our hotel is close enough that I shouldn't need to carry everything around all day. We take a break in the afternoon so I reapply sunblock and such then.

Anyway, I've never had an issue with taking my backpack on the rides.

On my last trip, I took a Louis Vuitton cross-body bag (I admit, I'm a purse snob, LOL). My DH carried the messenger bag, which we had plastic bags, water bottles, sunscreen, etc in it. I also carry a full-size DSLR, so it would go into that on water rides. I usually kept my bag on me on most rides, I like to wear the straps long. I also bought one of the drawsting back-packs with Mickey on it to use as well.

I just take my D&B Disneyland bag..the letter carrier I think it is..nice size, and really just kinda flat. Works for my camera, a snack or 2, etc. It's cross body so I just wear it and am hands free. Most rides I just wear it, and for those that I feel I should remove it, it fits easily into the mesh pouches.

I use a Lancelot crossbody purse made by Kipling.
I love it for traveling because it has so many secure pockets for cash, credit cards, etc.

I used to do a fanny pack, but I've paired down enough where a wristlet holds what I need.
