Carry out?

I'm a little embarrassed to ask this question, but here goes. OK, so we have reserved our Fantasmic Dining pkg for lunch. However, one of my sons will be attending a YES class that overlaps our reservation time. Obviously, I have to pay for his meal in order to get the ticket to the show. Do you think they'd let me pack up a to-go box for his meal? Is this considered a "no-no"? Thanks!

I can't imagine why you would not be allowed to do that. You can take leftovers home so certainly you would be able to have his meal packed up. And BTW, I don't think you should be embarrassed at all about asking this question!

If it makes you feel better, I will tell you that I have asked for dessert to be packed up from the Signature restaurants even. My kids were too full for dessert so I asked if I could have the fruit to be packed up so that we could use it for their breakfast. Not only were they happy to oblige, they gave us a much larger portion than they would have gotten at the restaurant AND it was a gorgeous box of fresh berries rather than the mixed fruit you normally get!

Wow! Thanks so much for sharing that with me. I just didn't know if asking for carry-out would be tacky!

You can ask. But most WDW restaurants do not allow carryout. They WILL allow a meal to be ordered and then packed up, so don't use the word "carryout." Order one for your son, and then have it packed.

I'd be more concerned with the fact that WDW restaurants do not seat guests until everyone on the reservation is present. But you can also try explaining to those at the podium that your son is not coming. Not sure if that will result in his being removed from the reservation though.

If it's Hollywood and Vine (the buffet) I am guessing the answer will most likely be that you are not allowed to pack up a meal to go from the buffet.

Our reservations are at Mama Melrose's. I wouldn't think they would allow a "packed meal" at a buffet, either. And, I'll be sure to not ask for a carry-out. As for his not being there at the meal, maybe I can get an "excused absence" from the instructor. :) Though that does give me an idea - I'll check with the lady organizing our trip. She's done this for like 8 years with over 200 kids, so maybe she'll have some knowledge...

I'm thankful to TDC Nala for pointing out that they may not seat us without a complete party. In fact, I finally called Disney about our reservations and was informed that if we had shown up without my son it would have been considered a "no show." We would have been charged a cancellation fee and he wouldn't have been given a reserved seat. Somewhat disappointing considering he was going to be attending a YES class. Anyhow, the good news is that we were actually able to make reservations for another day. It is certainly not the ideal day, but it's doable and I'm thankful!
