Carry on question

I have a bottle of prescription cough medicine that is larger than the allowed 3 oz. for liquids. (No, I'm not contagious. I have a night time cough that is lingering from a bout with bronchitis from a month ago!) My question is, can I take this in my carry on since it's a prescription or do I need to check it? TIA

It should fall in the medical liquid category.

With TSA, even if it wasn't a prescription medication, you'd still be okay.
