Carry on deoderant

Hi
Not to change the subject, but I wear contacts and was wondering if they will throw out my contact lens case. I carry with a few drops of saline solution in case I get something in my eye, and would need to take out my lens. I guess since those couple of drops are liquid, Ill have to pack in in my regular suitcase and carry a dry lens case with me. My lens would be ruined with nothing to put it in. I could wear glasses, but I'm too vain. I know you can't carry bottles of the solution, but this is just a few drops in my case. Of course, it's better to be safe. We leave next week.

I was wondering the same thing... and actually, if it came to that, couldn't you just dump the liquid out and keep the case?

I've decided I'm just going to wear my glasses. I hate to wear them all day because they make my eyes tired but my eyes also get dry with contacts and I need rewetting solution, which they would probably confiscate as well (I'm talking about a .3 fl oz bottle here, not the big bottle of lense solution).

I keep reminding myself why they are doing this... but what a pain!!

The hard thing with wearing contacs is sometimes they get really dry on the plane. You at least need the case with a little solution in case you have to take them out. I'm so glad we are driving 10 hours! Never thought I'd say that. :rolleyes1

Any liquids or gels can be confiscated if they are in your carry ons. This includes rewetting drops and contact solution, toothpaste, deoderant, lotions, ect. If you try to bring it on, expect them to take it. At least you can have a carry on at all... Anything brought on a plane in the UK currently must be in a very small, clear plastic bag (not to mention the same restrictions as in the US) and they are also confiscating electronic equipment or anything that uses a battery.

Pescription meds that may be needed on the plane must have a lable with the person's name on it who is carrying it and must be in the original containers. To the best of my knowledge, this will not effect pills. It will effect items like insulin though. Having a doctor's note stating that this medicine is a requirement for you to have may not be a bad idea either.

Those airport hotel gift shops charge a lot for a little deodorant-they must think it's gold

According to CNN, the shops in the airports that are past security are not allowed to sell any items on the banned list. As such, you would not be able to get toothpaste/deoderant at the time being.

My mom told me that the airport here isn't carrying ANY of the stuff that is being banned.

I don't know if that's the case for OTC medications in Texas. I went to some pharmacies this morning (too much time on my hands, I know) to find out if they write prescriptions or label OTC medications to bring it on airplanes. All the pharmacies made it clear that the only things that get their labels are the drugs with doctor-written prescriptions!
Without toothpaste, deodorant, etc., what if you have to change planes (for us, that's the only way to get to WDW-change planes) and you run into problems and end up stuck overnight. Those airport hotel gift shops charge a lot for a little deodorant-they must think it's gold! I speak from experience.

Thanks for the replies. We are driving to DL in November and have now decided to drive to the Rose Parade as well. My next plane trip is not till February at the EARLIEST (if we even go) so hopefully by then it will be more regulated.

I agree this is all for our own good but MAN is it a pain in the backside. I just went to 2 stores looking for a hardsided cosmetic case like they used to carry in the 60's and they just plain don't make them anymore. I am probably going to try to find one online cuz I'm sorry but I just don't trust putting stuff in my checked luggage. Even with plastic bags have you SEEN the way those baggage handler treat your luggage? I just pray we don't have to start packing our video/camera equipment cuz there is NO way I am putting my 1,000 video camera in my softsided suitcase.

UGH.

I was just going over my packing list to remove any liquids and chapstick and wondered about deoderant solids and gels. Seems to me these will not be allowed either but no one has said anything about them. Just a thought.

Why chance it? Put it on before you leave the house and pack it away in a check-in bag. That way you won't have to worry about anything.

Our local television news ran a segment during which a TSA screener went through the TV personality's bag. The TSA screener said that anything that can be "smooshed" between your fingers (i.e. chapstick, lip gloss, deodorant, etc.) is not allowed. However, he specifically said hard pill-form medicines (even non-prescription) are allowed. Good luck!

OK, once again the government in all it collective wisdom has knee jerked it's way into letting the terrorist groups win by default.

I mean really, if the security people cannot tell the difference between an explosive and deodorant then perhaps it's time for some new security people. We are not all terrorists and to make the public throw away innocent merchandise so they don't have to actually use their brains and check it out is, OK I'll say it....STUPID!

I would wager right now that this idiocy will be over with in a few weeks or even days. Can you imagine someone checking an expensive lap top into the bowels of the airport baggage handling area. That would be the last time they would see that, not to mention the last time it will probably ever work again. I, myself, have a CPAP machine that I must take with me or I cannot breath at night while asleep. I cannot afford to have it lost or damaged even for one night. I have to carry it on. Medicine is another topic. A pill will not blowup a plane no matter how hard it tries.

This nation and it wingtipped weenies in Washington have lost all common sense to panic and submission. If someone wants to blow up a plane why can't they do it in checked luggage as well as carry on. It is absolutely ridiculous. It makes me sad to think that we are that foolish and that wimpy. I'd rather go down with dignity then be afraid all my life. Maybe we should just ground all airplanes until all the terrorists have been eliminated. :furious:

OK, vent is over...I feel much better now. I will not fly with these restrictions but I at least feel better.

I feel like not wearing deodorant to Disney. (I'm 14.) I also feel like I should just go up to Bush while not wearing deodorant and give him a headlock.

Remember, though, people, that Bush is the idiotic pawn.

II've wondered about my inhaler (asthma) since the perscription is on the box which I throw away - I wonder if I should pick up a refill so I have that label?
Yes you need the label on the box.

I will feel like Clark Kent at the airport.

If you see someone loading up on lip balm and deodorant, changing into glasses, and saying a prayer when she has to leave her luggage at the baggage check - that will be me! But don't say hi, I won't admit to looking like that.

This will be a huge problem for me!!! :sad2:

I'm all for safety but my chapstick is never far from me....

I also don't think I could survive 4 or 5 hours without my chapstick but the newspaper that I read today said that chapstick and lipstick were ok to carry on. I think that because this is so new and happened so suddenly that some screeners are just going overboard. Hopefully in a few days things will settle down some and they will be more logical in what is banned. At any rate my chapstick is always in my pocket and it will remain there. I will also miss my toothpaste. I can't stand it if I don't brush after eating.

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Not to cause trouble by encouraging people to thwart the rules, but for some I see how not having chapstick or a few drops of contact solution in a case could be a problem. Couldn't you just put these in your pockets? The metal detector is not going to catch it and I don't think they are doing pat downs (anymore than usual). I mean the worse that will happen if they do find it on your person is make you throw it away. Just tell them you forgot it was there.

I understand why they implemented an across the board rule, problem is there are going to be a lot of exceptions that they have yet to address and hopefully will in the next few days.

I truly love this post and AMEN to someone who is not afraid to say what they believe!! I am tired of losing my freedom to terrorists and having people turn their cheek and say They are sick and do not know better.

We need to TAKE BACK THE USA!!

Dude!!

Try a 17 hour flight from Australia!

I'm sure you'll manage a 2 and a half hour flight.

I went to my doctor yesterday and he wrote me a letter, which lists the medication I'm taking with me overseas. Nothing major, just an asthma pump and a nasal spray, etc. Both also have my name on the label.

I'll be putting my lip gloss in my checked-in baggage.

As for deoderant, put that in your checked-in baggage too. Even if you're on the plane for 17 hours like I will be, you won't be that stinky. As soon as you get to your hotel, put some on.

It's really not that difficult to organize or comprehend.
