I am going to take a carryon bag only to wdw. Can I bring my makeup bag with tweezers/small scissor? Also I have hair spray and face toner but those have to be in small bottles right?

Anything of a liquid, gel or paste consistency must be in containers of no more than 3.4 ounces and stored in a quart size plastic zip top bag. You may take as many containers that may fit in the bag, but you must be able to close the zip.

I had small fingernail scissors taken from me at the airport once by security. (I had them for cutting moleskin.). It's been several years since that happened, so things may have changed. Just be prepared to lose them if you bring them.

You mean a carryon only on the plane for your next trip to WDW?

Yes, you need to follow the 3-1-1 rule.
http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/3-1-1-carry-ons

Every liquid/gel in a container no bigger than 3.4oz (100ml)
Everything in a 1 quart size ziplock bag

Chapsticks are gels! Check everything you have in that makeup bag carefully and move it to the ziplock if in question.

One ziplock bag per passenger, placed in the bin to go through the scan

Tweezers and Nail clippers are fine. don't carry any knives, I know someone who had a pocketknife that is smaller than the limit, and he was allowed to take it one and it was taken away on the return trip.

There is no "smaller than the limit" for pocketknives, simply because there are no pocket knives of any sort allowed on aircraft.

Not sure how he was "allowed" to take it once.

And while I'm here - chapstick is not considered a gel since it, in stick form only, can maintain its stick shape outside of the container.

Thank you!

Yes, this happened to me once, too. Don't bring scissors, even small ones, with you onto the plane. Unless they're packed in your checked luggage, they will take them away from you. So cut the moleskin into pieces before you leave home!

Regarding the "liquids" rule, as someone else mentioned, all liquid, gel, and aerosol products must fit into a single quart-size ziploc, and the top must be able to close. Things like hairspray count as a liquid, even if it's in an aerosol can. I've heard that food items like those little cups of applesauce count, since those are considered a liquid! (Can anyone else here confirm that?)

There are a couple of exceptions, such as things like baby food and baby formula, and what are considered "medically required liquids" (I imagine things like insulin for diabetics) that are not counted toward the liquid limit. But you must tell the TSA screener that they are in your bag, and they may require additional screening.

I once has a TSA agent tell me that I didn't need to put my contact lens solution into my quart-size ziploc, since this is considered a "medically required liquid." Apparently it doesn't count, either.

Here's the link to the TSA web site, where it outines what's allowed, and what's not. You can also go to your airline's website for more info.

I took my cross stitching with me on the plane. I had small sewing needles and foldable scissors and didn't have any problems. That same trip I carried on all my makeup, eye shadow, make up remover, liquid foundation and lip gloss with no problem. However, my tweezers were taken away. Go figure...

Scissors with blades smaller than 4 inches, small needles carried for special medical needs, and other sharp objects that do not contain a blade may be placed in carry-on baggage.

Any sharp objects placed in carry-on or checked baggage should be properly sheathed or securely wrapped to prevent injury to TSOs and baggage handlers.

Even if an item is generally permitted, it may be subject to additional screening or not allowed through the checkpoint if it triggers an alarm during the screening process, appears to have been tampered with, or poses other security concerns. The final decision rests with TSA on whether to allow any items on the plane.

Hmm, that's new; a "can I bring?" app and web-based search engine. Fun.

I think I will be okay without my scissors. If they take away my tweezers I wont know what to do!! (I am an obsessive eyebrow tweezer!! Please someone tell me they let you keep your tweezers??!?

To reduce the amount of things I have to bring, I usually ship a package to our resort with snacks, sunscreen, sippy cups, diapers/wipes, stuff I'm not worried about taking back home with me. If there's anything you question but think you need, ship it! You can ship up to 30 days before your stay.

I always carry a pair of small child's scissors in my carry on. As long as the blade is less than 4" they are allowed. Another poster mentioned chap stick. That too is allowed (in stick form). The only things that need to go in your 3-1-1 bag are items that will not hold their shape outside their container (so appleasauce and peanut butter would). Medically required items also do not count and do not need to be in the 3-1-1 bag, but may need to be declared. I travel doing carry on only all the time. I'm a diabetic and put my Vicotza pen, it's needles, a small bottle of contact lens solution, ear drops, and eye drops in their own seperate 3-1-1 bag and have never had a problem.

My mom is also a diabetic. She shows them her Humalog vials and Lantus pens, but doesn't even bother anymore taking out her lancets or insulin needles. In the past she has also traveled with her nebulizer and liquid nebulizer meds. She's never had a problem either.

I just got back from WDW last Sunday (was down there Sept 14th-22nd) and used carry on only. They didn't say a word about me having two 3-1-1 bags (one for liquids/gels and one for medical stuff like contact lens, contact lens solution, eye and ear drops). Just make sure the only thing in the second bag is medically related only. I also had the little kids scissors and tweezers I always take.

If you plan on doing carry on only, my advice is to not necessarily buy the travel size products in the 3.4 oz containers. Most items you can get by with less than 3oz for the week and the 3.4 oz containers take up too much room in your 3-1-1 bag. I bought two sets of those different size mini containers in a heavy 3-1-1 quart bag at Bed, Bath, & Beyond years ago. The quart bags ripped, but I still have all those little bitty containers. I think they range in size from like 1/2 oz to 3 oz. I also bought some tiny 3gr and 5 gr jars that screw together. I use the 3 gr jars for mineral makeup (does not have to go in 3-1-1 bag, but just convenient to carry small amounts of makeup in). I use three of the 5 gr jars screwed together to hold moisterizer, eye cream, and night cream. The little bottles I have from Bed, Bath & Beyond I fill with shampoos, conditioner, hair gel, shower gel, etc. I still have enough for the week, have my favorite products, don't have the extra expense of buying travel size items each trip, and they take up less room than the 'travel size' stuff' you buy. Last week my 3-1-1 bag had shampoo, conditioner, gel, anti frizz finishing serum, two bottles bubble bath, my trio of 5 gr stackable jars filled facial moisturizer, eye cream, and night cream, a sample size bottle toner, a small can of mousse, two tiny lip glosses, a tiny travel sample size mascara, lip nighttime treatment, tiny tube of foot scrub, and a few things I'm probably forgetting. Using the tiniest bottles you can get by with allows you to stuff a bigger variety of items in your 3-1-1 bag. My toiletry bag had a shower cap, small pumice stone, two sticks of facial sunscreen, Olay cleansing wipes, two pairs tiny travel size tweezers (both blunt tip and pointed tip), the 3gr stack of screw together jars with mineral makeup, some tiny travel size make up brushes, eyebrow pencil, travel size eyeliner pencil, small brush and comb, a razer, stick of Body Glide, stick deodorant, some Salonpas pain patches, small shaker of Gold Bond powder (I used an old small squat plastic spice jar for that to save space), lip balm, chap stick, and two sample size lipsticks (lip gloss has to go in the 3-1-1 bag, but solid lipsticks and balms do not), bandaids, mole skin, and my small kids scissors (all stuff that didn't need to go in the 3-1-1 bag). All those toiletries easily fit into the Vera Bradley medium hanging organizer with some room left over. http://www.verabradley.com/product/...81968/c/638/sc/646/p/1002053.uts?fromSearch=1

Chopsticks are solids, not gels, and don't have to go in the 311 bag.

I don't know what you mean about the pocket knife size limit; knives of any size are still not allowed. Naturally your friend's knife was taken away.

I have traveled with my folding scissors for years...never an issue.
And those little cups of food? Don't get me started!!! When I flew home from Florida with my step-mother last winter, I saw what she was planning on bringing as carryon!!! She had her makeup and creams and lotions all in a makeup bag in her carryon. She had the little fruit cups in a bag so we could have lunch on the plane. Being the 'experienced' flier that I am, I told her that she wasn't going to be able to get thru security like that. She argued with me and told me she does it all the time. Okay, I said, figuring I was going to have the last laugh when they took it all away. Nope, she had the last laugh..as we sat down at the gate and she just looked at me and laughed. Not one single thing she had in her carryon was questioned..not one!
Then again, I'm the one the takes her chapstick out of her pocket and puts it in the quart baggie!!! Such a little rule follower..to excess!!

Speaking of Chapstick, one time at security I had a tube in my pocket (I can't live without it!). The TSA agent at the metal detector asked what I had in my pocket and then made sure I took out my Chapstick and put it in my quart bag - luckily it hadn't gone into the machine yet - before he would let me through. First and only time that has happened. I believe it was in Milwaukee.
