Carry on Backpack?

I am leaving on 11-16 for WDW. After hearing that airlines are only letting one carryon item I started thinking. We leave on Sun Country and coming back on ATA. Does anyone know if they are letting kids bring backpacks on the plane. I have collected stuff to suprise the kids with at the airport to take on the plane, now I am worried that they will not be able to bring it on the plane. Has anyone had a problem with this? Sun Country's message says the only acceptable carryon items would be one of the following: Purse, briefcase and two other ones that I can't recall right now but they were not a backpack.


If that is true, my DD has a large shoulder bag (backpack) that looks like a briefcase but with a long strap on it. Does that sound like it will be ok? My DS (5) has a backpack with rollers and a handle ( I am guessing that that will not be allowed)
 
I would like to know this too! We are flying Sun Country in Jan. and my dh always takes the video camera in a carrying case. This has to come with us and I wouldn't trust it to the checked baggage!
 
Have you checked the sun country website. I thought I read explicit carryon info on there once.
 
Major airlines (Delta, AA, UAL are all that I've read) and security posts at BOS, ATL and MCO say that one carry-on meeting the required small size and one personal piece (purse, briefcase, backpack or laptop) will be allowed per person. I'd check your airline's website-or call them- to see what they say.
