Hi,
We are flying Airtran on Sunday. I bought a plastic pill case to put my DH prescription medicines in for every day. Is this o.k. or do I have to bring the bottles with me? We get mail order for 90 days and the bottles are bigger than normal and I don't want to carry all that. He is concerned that they will take his med and he won't have any then on the trip. It is just prilosec and some asthma med. My ILS are traveling with us and are on a few meds also. Anyone have any experience with this. I didn't want to put in the checked bags in case they are lost. Thanks

Hi there... I have absolutely carried pills this way, on many flights, with no problem. I also take all my medication onto the plane with me - I have a Pro Air inhaler, Advair and Nasacort - I simply bag these separately with my little pill case, and have that go thru security on it's own... it's not been an issue.

I carry my pills in teeny little craft zip-lock bags. One thing I DO carry are the prescription labels (from the package, not the bottle). TSA is supposed to check your medications but I don't even take them out of my carry on anymore....just the insulin.

You should have no problems.

Since you aren't crossing any borders, you are totally fine bringing whatever pills you need. And yes, definitely take all medications onto the plane with you. TSA needs to see any liquid meds (these are exempt from the 100mL rule), but do not need to see any pills (they have no authority over these).

I bring my RX medications in a weekly pill box in my personal bag that I bring on the plane. Never had a problem.

It's not going to be a problem.

Heck, my friend carried her week's pillbox with her, instead of all her bottles, without carrying the prescription info (sort of the receipt you get, at least at walgreens, along with the bottle), to Mexico and it wasn't a problem. She developed idiopathic hepatitis as a teen, and let's put it this way...she had a liver transplant in March, and she now takes FEWER pills than she was before, and she went to Mexico before the transplant...LOTS of pills without any sort of paperwork with them.

All that said, I just sent hubby on a plane (domestic and international) with the proper bottle and paperwork...no reason to not take (at least the paperwork) it if you have it. In our opinion. :) Then again, hubby's pill is absolutely tiny, and his dose is HALF that pill once a week, so since it's a strange situation, we figured we'd best be safe rather than sorry.

I always take the prescription documentation that comes with my bottles versus peeling off the labels. I too use mail order and have large bottles so I often use blank bottles (combined with the 7 day pill box for longer stays) with the needed (plus a few extras) pills for the travel period. When security alerts are higher TSA will check the bottles and documentation or if going through customs they'll check it. When traveling abroad I'll take a duplicate prescription plus pack an equal amount in my checked luggage with the documentation. I always worry that my carryon might get stolen and there goes my meds. It's harder to get refill or fill out of country prescriptions overseas.

I just started 2 acne medications. I'm not sure how to go about packing it?? I really don't want to put it in checked luggage in case it's lost. One is a cream in a jar...the other is cream in a tube. Should I just bag them seperately in their original box with perscription info on it & put it in my carryon???:confused3

Check the TSA website, but medications may be exempt from the 3-1-1 rule. I would definitely carry them on the plane with you. You may just have to put them in a bag and declare them separately from any other liquids or gels you may have.

Yup, this is exactly what you should do. You never want to pack medicine in your checked baggage, and meds are exempt from the 3-1-1 rule. Just put them in thier own plastic baggie, and let the TSA officer know when you go through security

No. It is medication. See JoliBug's response directly above your question. It applies to ALL medication.
