we stayed at port orleans standard room last year and it was great. Didn't mind the walk to food court or pool. Now looking at CBR. Should I go proffered room? Is water view that much better? And looks like it will be in Martinique section. Is that walkable to pool and food court. Seems like a big place I read they offer in resort shuttle service. Don't care about park shuttle bus pickup locations cause we drive ourselves.
Thanks

We have stayed at CBR several times and are again in a few weeks. We have never paid for a preferred room. We usually request Jamaica. It is a nice 5 min or less walk across the bridge to OPR. My 8 year old and I really enjoy the walk in the morning. We find it relaxing. Right now the bridge is closed (I have heard 2 dates for opening 11/26 & 12/25/15) not sure when it will open. I am not sure when you are planning to go.
A water view can be the beach or pool view, again we have never paid for anything other than a standard. We don't sit outside of our room, so it doesn't matter.
They do have an internal resort bus shuttle, but we have never taken it. We have even walked from the custom house to Jamaica with our luggage, stroller and 2 kids. They do have a van that will drive you when you check in. They also have a bus stop in each village for park buses.
Now if we had medical issues or didn't like walking than I would pay to upgrade. We also stay for 12 days so not upgrading saves us some money.

Preferred rooms are in Trinidad North or the 3 closest buildings in Martinique.
A water view room can be in any part of the resort, including the furthest, and might just be a view of a pool. We never pay extra for aa view when staying at a mod. You don't have a balcony, and there are public walkways outside your windows, so you need to keep the curtains drawn for privacy. So why pay for a view that you only see when entering or exiting your room?.
We have always stayed in a standard in Jamaica or Aruba and used the bridge to get to OPR. Never needed to use the bus. Buildings 45 and 51 are the closest to the bridge.
The noreferred rooms in Martinique are walking distance to OPR.

I agree with the previous posters, I would book a standard room and just make sure to put in a room request for a specific building. I've stayed at CBR many times (mostly in Jamaica). The walk is not bad at all (when the bridge is open). We've never needed the internal bus. Enjoy your stay, I love CBR!

It takes longer to get the resort shuttle to OPR than it does to walk. We have stayed at least 10 times at CBR and the size is greatly exaggerated. It is the largest of the moderates, but it is not bad at all. My wife has MS and I have had both knees replaced...we can both walk it with no problems. All we ever request is ground floor and Jamaica...although we got Martinique this past September.

IMHO it's worth the extra money IF you intend to spend time at the resort or hit the pool early or late. My kids were so wiped out from the parks that they squawked & moaned the entire walk to the pool. We were in the Aruba building, with the pull down bed. The room was spacious & beds comfy, you can't go wrong with the rooms...the walk to OPR? Not everyone's favorite memory.

I have a preferred room booked for August '16 but only because it was the same price as the standard room! My parents are staying at CBR in November '16 in a standard, so I'll let them know about requesting the islands over the bridge!

I booked preferred rooms the last 2 times ive stayed there but only because I think those were the only rooms with a king size bed. We were in Trinidad North and I don't think it was more than a 5 minute walk to the pool and food court area. I paid the extra because I wanted the king bed not the view or closeness to the pool/food I would have been happy anywhere. With that being said it was extremely convenient to be so close to everything because some parts of the resort really do have quite a long walk.

Good Luck and enjoy your trip.

FYI. Every building, except Trinidad South where the Pirate Themed Rooms are, has at least 8 King Beds.

You're welcome. King rooms are extra $$.
To be fair the first time we booked was with a AAA travel agent and if I remember correctly she said we had to go preferred if we wanted the king bed. So when I booked the second trip online I just automatically went for preferred thinking that was my only option.

Wow, if you actually booked a preferred room and were given a King that's very rare. They are 2 separate categories. You can book either a preferred room or a king room. There is no room categorized as a preferred king. At the Value's a Deluxes you can only request a King but at the Moderates you normally have to book a King to get one.

The trip was over 4 years ago so im a little hazy but im fairly sure that's what happened. I could be wrong though. Wouldn't be the first time DEFINITLY wont be the last. LOL

Yep. Looks like you had a TA that wasn't au currant with all of the various booking categories. King bed has its own category at the mods.

We've booked King Room the last 3 trips...have never asked for preferred, and have had Trinidad North (preferred), Martinique (preferred), and Jamaica (standard).

We just got back from our first stay at CBR. We hated it. If anything could go wrong, it did. So many issues with rooms and magic bands (not opening rooms) etc. It's way too spread out. My uncle is in at wheelchair (scooter) and can't walk at all without assistance. We ended up in Martinique while they were in Trinidad North. Fairly convenient for each of us to OPR, not convenient to the Custom House (which we had to go to more than we realized we would) and not convenient to each other. After hours of trying to get magic bands to work to open rooms, my parents' room reeked of smoke. Not worth trying to move, though, since it was such a nightmare trying to get into the rooms to begin with. The rooms themselves were nice. Beds were comfortable. They did have a shuttle running from Jamaica and Aruba to OPR since the bridge is out (not wheelchair accessible FYI). I don't understand why the Custom House and OPR are separate, and it really is pretty inconvenient. The pool bar was good. Could see IllumiNations from there. Food court was decent. Didn't try Shutters.

The thing that scares me away from CBR is how spread out it is. The reason I loved POFQ is that it's so compact and easily walk able. That and it was the first stop with the buses, so we got to board and get a seat before the bus headed over to Dixie Landings. Sorry, Riverside. Still can't get use to the change.

Well, POR and CSR are just as spread out. We like POFQ very much, but we've had very nice stays at all of the other mods. And I'm in a wheelchair at WDW. If you really hate the idea of a 5-10 minute walk, you can always book preferred.

We had a standard room (not preferred) and requested Martinique. We were next to the Martinique pool and a short walk to Old Port Royale. Real close to the bus stop, too, and we had a pretty garden view.
