Our family of 5 will be in WDW for Christmas this year and we were thinking about taking the carriage ride through the woods at the WL. Has anyone ever done this? It's only $30 for a carriage, which I think is cheap, but i was wondering what you see along the way. We're Northerners, so I keep reminding my kids that it's not a horse-drawn carriage ride through a wintery woods.

I was wondering about the ride also. Our family of 4 is going later this month. We have a carriage ride planned on an evening after the Hoop de doo. I will let you know what it is about when we get back. Am looking forward to it

Thanks so much. I'll look forward to your thoughts. Hopefully, someone else will post their opinion before you leave so you'll know what to expect, too.

We've done the Wilderness Lodge "sleigh" ride three times. It's a very pretty white carriage fixed up to look like a sleigh, with fake runners covering the wheels, etc. It's also decked out with holiday decorations - greenery and ribbons, complete with jingle bells! The ride takes you over the wooded path to Fort Wilderness, around the campgroud a bit, and back. There isn't really much to see, since it's dark - but it's a nice ride. They even have a nice blanket to snuggle under - which is nice on those December nights when it's cold, even in Florida. We really, really enjoy it. One of our favorite Disney holiday activities is dinner at the Whispering Canyon Cafe followed by the "sleigh" ride. It's very, very "Christmassy"!

If you make this reservation, PLEASE call back a day or two later and confirm that it is the Wilderness Lodge sleigh ride, and not the Fort Wilderness one. We made reservations for a Christmas ride, and found at the time that reservations had messed up and booked us for the Fort Wilderness one. At the time, there was no way to complain, change or re-schedule. We caught a bus to Fort Wilderness, had an (abbreviated) ride through the campsites (and although I know there are people who book this to look at the Christmas decorations on the campers, it was SO not what we were expecting) and then had to wait 45 minutes in freezing cold weather for a return bus. It was an awful experience, except that my girls and I can laugh about anything, so we decided to enjoy it in its awfulness. Now it's one of our favorite memories. BUT - make sure you book what you think you are booking, it can save a lot of disappointment later.

I didn't know there was a difference between the WL carriage ride vs the Campground. I'll definitely make sure I reserve the right one. Thanks for the tip on calling back to confirm, though I usually do that at least monthly up until we leave JUST so there are no surprises with anything we reserve in advance. Disney hasn't let us down yet, but you never know! I was hoping to just sit back and relax DISNEY-STYLE.............the bells and blanket sound great. Thanks again!
