Carpeting -- anybody try panels?

I'm in between flooring -- ripped up old wall-to-wall and have hardwood now. I'm trying to decide what I want to do (refinish floors or recarpet), but leaning toward recarpeting. In the meantime, I have to put SOMETHING down so my dogs don't break their legs as they slide across the floor. Area rugs are a lot more expensive than I thought.

Anyone ever use these?
Carpet panels

we have them in our Family Room. I bought them because we are flooring-stain prone people. I bought a couple of extra boxes in case they ever discontinue.

If I had hardwood underneath though, I'd refinish. I love hardwood floors.

Were they easy to put down? Tolerant of heavy traffic? Do they stick or just kind of sit there? Can I vacuum them without them getting stuck to the vacuum?

(Don't want to turn this into a carpet vs. hardwood debate!) I'm not a huge fan of hardwood -- I think it's pretty, but it's not for me. Plus with two medium/large dogs who like to chase each other, it's not all that safe.

My ILs bought the Legato brand from Home Depot and have been very happy with it. They said it was easy to install and is holding up great. You can't tell where the seams are at all.
