carpet cleaner recommendations?

I have got to get one....my 8 year old can't seem to eat without spilling something, and unfortunately, there is carpet under my dining table! anyone like theirs? Of course, I want it to not cost a lot, but don't want to buy one that doesn't work!

I know a lot of people like a carpet cleaner but I don't. I have been told by professional cleaners (and friends) that if you don't get all of the soap out, the carpet will attract dirt. This happened when we moved in to our house and the previous owners had used a carpet cleaner. We ended up replacing the carpet because it was going to be less than paying a professional every year. Now, no big cleaning and no spots after 2 years. We use Folex as a spot cleaner only.

Oh and we have carpet under our main eating table and no spots so far with spot cleaning only.

Agreed. Built my house -day one I asked my child what he had in school for lunch - he then showed me. Chocolate milk and chicken nuggets.

A bottle of resolve later - you didnt even know there was an accident. I was proud I had ordered the stainmaster carpet.

A week later I saw the spot. I have had everything on that spot since. Resolve, carbona, oxyclean (this is best) but before you buy a machine - shop for local specials, the pro's often do 3 rooms for the price of the machine and move furniture too.
