Will they be using the slow kill stuff that they take back to the nest so they all die? You've got to kill the queen or the colony goes on...

I believe that is what they use. He said they will spray, if we see more ants after, say 7 days, they will come back and spray again. I'm just glad we are doing this because I hate bugs!! This will take care of the gross silverfish and earwigs we get too!!

UG! In our last house we had a Carpentar Ant problem that was SOOOO bad - I would find them ALL over my toilets and at one point there were falling from my recessed lights in my KITCHEN and would drop on my counters, on my table - while we were eating - YUCK!

First course of action is to THOROUGHLY investigate your house from top to bottom - they typically enter the house where there is a moisture problem. For us it was where the Garage roof met the side of the house - we repaired the damage and caulked any other suspicious spots, ripped out and replaced any rotted wood outside and also ripped out all the caulk in our bathrooms and recaulked everything - the toilets, tubs, showers etc. Then we hired an exterminator company and had them come quarterly - in addition we supplemented with spray purchased from HD that we used only outside - for our wooden retaining wall, we'd spray the outside of the house, spray the garage roof, the deck etc.

If you are VERY active and progressive you can find a way to fix the issue. You REALLY have to be thorough with the outside of your home though - inspect EVERYTHING to make sure it's not damp and rotting etc. GOOD LUCK!

OP, I am in MA. I built a brand new house and moved in June 1, 2005. Great, fine...this June I noticed ONE carpenter ant...started to get a tad bit concerned when 2 days later notice 3...called around and got quotes...all were $400 or

After our last house - we we moved here - also a brand new home - the FIRST call I made after we moved in was to the pest control company. My DH thought I was nuts because the house was new and it was the dead of winter but I will NEVER go throught what we went through at the last house again!(We also had Camelback Criockets in addition to the C. Ants those were GROSS!)

No way I was waiting for a bug problem before I called the pest people - I am all for just preventing now - lol

We had the slowwww kill BUT it was a good three weeks that we saw the little buggers but they were walking veryyyy slowly and eventually they would just be in a pile all dead. We have these sliders from our basement to our patio in the backyard and they were getting in through there. Actually the Pest dude found the nests in the soil very near those sliders. He said right there is where they are coming from and when I looked w/him as he dug in the soil....YIKES :scared1: ....ONE MILLION. I had no problem with the slow kill. I called so early into seeing my first C.A. that by the time Pest dudes were here and treating my house it was EARLY STAGES.

This past weekend I spent a good portion in the basement sweeping all the DEAD little buggers up. :crazy2:

Glad that CHAPTER is now officially CLOSED! :goodvibes

Most likely the ants are living outside your house and are foraging inside. Carpenter ants also are attracted to water, so you may have a moisture problem betweeen your walls or in the sills of your windows. It's not recommended to use sprays when you see ants, instead watch where they are traveling to and from and then use boric acid into the area that they are going. Most likely they are moving to and from satellite nests, not the main one where you can find the queen. I've also been told that exterminators are a huge waste of time and are basically "snake oil salesmen" who will string you along to amke money. Think about it, if they completely stop the problem, they run out of work! Check out this link or go to Ask.com and type in "How do you get rid of carpenter ants."
