Carousel of Progress

I read that the Carousel of Progress is closed durning the off peak seasons? Does anyone know if this is true?

I have also read that Carousel of Progress is only running during the busier times of the year. We were there last June and it was running then.
I believe the term WDW uses is "seasonal" for attractions that are not operating every day of the year.

I think it's true it only ran a few times last time we were there.

I have never been to the Magic Kingdom when the Carousel of Progress was NOT running. This includes several visits during the less crowded weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and I enjoyed the Carousel this past Sunday evening (March 19). But I have heard that the attraction is closed at times, I just can't imagine when those times are. Seems to me like there's always some crowd at WDW.

I had a good time on it 2 years ago during early May. I like having a chance to sit down earlier in the day and try to catch all the funny little bits on the carousel. Air conditioning is a huge plus too

We were there during the second week of Sept. the last two years, during all the hurricanes, the parks were pretty empty. The COP was open both times during our entire stay.

We were there last March and it was not busy at all, but the COP was open. I enjoyed it!!

When we visited in the 2nd week of September, 2003 it was closed. It was open during our last visit at the end of February/beginning of March. So glad we got a chance to see it again!

We were on it just a few days ago. We have found it to be open on all of ur trips except for Dec 99. We have been in Jan, Mar, June, Oct and Dec. You shouldnt have any problem unless its broke or in refurbishment.

We usually go to WDW in the winter. Feb 2002, Feb 2004, Jan 2005, and early Dec 2005 COP was closed. We just snuck in a quick weekend two weeks ago and it was open, which made me happy cause our girls had never been in it. Mind you the winter dates we usually go the parks are pretty empty.

I'm going in September so I guess it is iffy....I'll be there for 10 days maybe it will be open at least one day. I hope so I was really looking forward to going on it.....I can't believe after all my vacations there that i have never been on it.

You can always ask a CM at your hotel or in tomorrowland. They may be able to let you know if and when it will be open. I would ask at the hotel first and see, they may be able to tell you. Otherwise ask at tomorrowland.

Yup, same here. The years we were there in Jan and early Feb it was not open. The last two trips we went the week following Pres. Week and it was open!

I was just reading the history of this ride at AllEarsNet, and found this statement there "Beginning October 12, 2003, Carousel of Progress resumed daily operation. It is usually open during normal park hours."

We went in Sep03, so it was closed at that time. But when I was a little girl back in the late 60s/early 70s , my family went to Disneyland a few times and we always went on that ride. I LOVED it I can't wait to take my children in May this year!

One very important question......For someone who's been lately, Is the miniature city (Progress City, I think it was called) still there for viewing at the end of the show? That was my FAV part!

I don't recall seeing what you are talking about, at the end the door open and you just walk outside. But if you take the TTA it goes thru buildings and one scene is the city of tomorrow or something like that. It is a miniature city, maybe that is what you are thinking of??

Was the miniature city in DL? When COP is over in WDW you just exit out the door to the outside.

In 1974 when Disneyland decided to change COP to America Sings, COP moved from Disneyland to Magic Kingdom but Progress City did not come with it. Progress City was a small City at the end of the Show that was still narrated by Mom and Dad from COP. It showed new GE technologies on the way for communities. I haven't seen it since I was 8 years old but I remember really liking it. So it was one of the things I was really looking forward to when I was going to see COP of progress again on my 1st WDW trip in 2001. So I was really dissapointed when it was not there. It was still great to see COP again for the 1st time in 27 years and I look forward to it again on my next trip. I believe the City you see in TTA is a small part of the original Progress City. You can still hear the Progress City part on Disneyland CD's.

Thats a rumor that keeps popping up but since they just spent money refurbishing it its not likely to happen anytime soon. Its only a rumor at this point. Plus they now have the Timekeeper building and the Tomorrowland stage area available if they want to add anything new.

I don't think they just refurbed it. I was on it last month and it was looking a bit shabby...definitely in need of a rehab!
