Has anyone had the vegan burger at the Carnation Cafe - how was it? There doesn't seem to be anything else vegetarian on the menu - will they change any of the items to make them meat-free - e.g., turkey sandwich without the turkey (just cheese, etc.)? Thanks!

I haven't had the vegan burger myself, but my vegan friend pronounced it "pretty good". She prefered some other dishes to the burger, but fully admits burgers are not her thing. In my experience, Disney will make any accommodation that they can. I have had them leave meat or sauces off dishes and it never was a problem. Have fun!

Just to clarify, they will make accommodations at table service restaurants. At counter service it has to be something they already have available, like a gluten free bun. They often can't just leave something off at counter service locations. And as far as vegetarian options, generally you'll find one per location. Sometimes you'll find 2 options, like a sandwich and a salad that are both without meat. The pizza and Mexican counter service locations in both parks have a few vegetarian options, and I guess Lucky Fortune, since you can choose your sauce, but that's about it.

Jody, always ask. If they can help they will. If they can't, they'll tell you. I've found that even CS places are great about helping.

Over at Paradise Garden Grill, by the way, they have a fabulous tofu skewer, and at Boardwalk Pizza/Pasta it's been no problem at all to have the chicken left off of a tomato/cream sauce penne dish. (of course if you are actually vegan that's not going to work for you, but I'm ovo/lacto so it does for me)

I haven't eaten at CC with the current menu, so I can't answer to the vegan burger, alas!

I have has exactly the opposite experience at counter service. I have visited with gluten free guests and vegan and a few other dietary restrictions. Every counter service place has had no problem adapting dishes to the best of their ability. We have heavily modified dishes by leaving things off and substituting other things. It has never been a problem. Obviously, they can't change a sauce that is pre-made, but they absolutely will leave it off if asked.

We have done this at Plaza Inn, Jolly Holiday, Harbor House, Tomorrowland Terrace, Rancho Del Zocalo, Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta, Paradise Grill, Lucky Fortune, Pacific Wharf Cafe, and several others. We have never run into a single CM that refused to modify a dish. They will explain what they can change and what they cannot and you can work with it. Have fun!

ETA: Here is a recent thread about vegan options, I have a post on the thread that details all the modifications that I have made:http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3059586&highlight=vegan
