Carlos Bakery

I'm glad it worked out. I would love to go too. Do you think it was too expensive?

Thanks on the baby update too...I need to get in to watch the newest show...

we must have gotten lucky when we went last year. It was a Fri afternoon in late May, and we drove over there while visiting NYC. Found a parking spot around the corner and only had to wait in line for about 10 minutes.
Best cannoli I've ever had, and my DD loved the brownies and choc dipped strawberries.
YUM!

It was expensive. I don't know about "too" expensive, because of where it is located. Everything is expensive in the NYC area.

When you finally make it inside, they give you a number. The bakery is SMALL. It is difficult to see in the cases because there are so many people waiting inside (at least when we were there. we waited inside for an hour to be waited on) Nothing has a price. There are no price lists anywhere. When your number is called, you just order "One of these, two of these, a half dozen of those...etc. Then they box it all up, and tell you how much.

When we went, we got 6 small cannoli, 2 cupcakes, an individual chocolate mousse cake, 2 lobster tails, and a few small biscotti...maybe 6 or so in the bag (they sell these by the pound). I also bought a piece of crumb cake for my friend. It came to just shy of $50. Friends of mine have been twice, and each time have spent over $100. Like she said, though: you aren't going to go all the way there and just buy a cupcake.

dh goes up there to work all the time and keeps on saying hes going to Carlos I think he may this time.

wow that crazy! My grandmother used to go there and get us cannolis when I was like 10. Yes they were awesome, but there are other places in Jersey to get good cannolis that you don't have to wait an hour in line for.

My Mom and I went this past fall, she watches the show regularly, I have seen it a handful of times. We were driving through the area so decided to stop. We were there around 9am and had no line as well, we were really worried seeing we had heard awful stories about how long the line could be.
I must say that we were not overally impressed by anything that we purchased, though the crumb cake was the best. It just reminded us of our local italian bakeries that we had at home.
Buddy was there, as well as Mary. Buddy was behind the counter making himself coffee, I was able to get a photo of about half of his head!

PatsFan, I'm glad that you had a good trip and had no line for the bakery! :)

I just read that Buddy's wife Lisa delivered their new baby this evening at 5:11pm! A son, Carlo Salvatore. CONGRATS TO THEM! :cloud9:

P.S. Carlo is the man that Buddy's father bought the bakery from and Salvatore was one of the men who worked at the bakery until last year, who died just last month from cancer. What a great tribute.

Congrats to them. Aww what a sweet tribute! :lovestruc
