Have people been able to sign up in the morning for a tour that day?
How close do they get you to the elephants? Would love to hear any experiences.

I reserved ahead because it was a priority for me...but i have ready many comments that there can be day-of availability.

It is a delightful way to observe the elephants, and the guides were very knowledgeable. The best way I can describe it is like being on your front porch and, instead of a house to look at across the street, there are elephants. You aren't terribly close....but the positioning of the observation areas makes you feel like you are.

I think you would be able to buy tickets day-of, but if it's important to you, I'd book ahead of time.

I took the tour in July and I was the only person on my tour! It was incredible to have a private tour, especially at the price point of the elephant tour! I would absolutely not count on that happening, however.

I agree with the prior poster's assessment of the distance. You're a bit closer than you would be on the safari, but you're not in a moving vehicle, which is beneficial for taking photographs that are not blurry.

There were people signing up for our tour minutes before it started. It's a really wonderful tour. You get as close to the elephants as you can possibly get, as long as they want to come out :)

We did the Up Close With Rhinos tour on December 6. After our 10:45 am check-in was completed, I signed up for the 12:30 Caring for Giants tour which was 30 minutes after the first experience ended. It was nice having that extra quiet time to observe and photo/video them.

We booked 2 months before, and we loved the tour. We had a good observation point for pictures. The guides were first rate. I was a little disappointed that we did not see where the elephants were housed at night (if they are) or that we didn't get up closer. But it was well worth the cost and very informative.

We booked this Tour way ahead, but my daughter and I were the only ones on our tour that morning last April. With that being said, you just never know. While same day availability is likely, it may not be the day that works for you. You aren't super close to the elephants, but close enough to get some great photos. The guides are awesome. Definitely worth the cost.

They have a tour booth set up near the entrance to Safari, where you check in and you can also sign up in person. A couple weeks ago I got into a tour about half an hour before it started, but I was a single and there was just one spot open. As others have mentioned you aren't super close to the elephants but it was nice to stand and watch them instead of being in the moving safari vehicle. The guides were very knowledgeable and there were lots of questions. I would recommend it.

This seems like something my daughter would love! Does anyone know if there is an AP discount... Previous (year 2017) messages said yes but I didn't see it listed as a benefit. thank you

Yes. @rteetz recently took the tour and the AP pricing is $25.
