Hi!

Has anyone stayed here before? What did you think about this resort? How was the room? Service? Restaurants? Pool? Thanks for any infos.

I would also like to know more about this hotel. How does it compare to a moderate on-site hotel? I'm glad to see you back Fantasia.:D

I've never stayed there, sorry I can't help, but I wanted to say Hi! & it's good to see you around. Although I've been looking out for you, I missed your post on the Community Board. I'm glad to hear you're well! :)

We went for an October visit just the two of us a few years back. We had a standard queen suite in, I believe building #1. We were fairly high up in the building as well.

We found our room quite comfortable, although dark. We had no balcony, but the windows overlooking the pool area were quite large.

My husband and I enjoyed the breakfast buffet (complimentary) each morning of our 3 night stay. We are, primarily, in the main building for the full buffet. Each individual building also has a common area that supplies a complimentary continental breakfast, too. We did this on our last morning. Do NOT order pizza from the take out, however, it was terrible. I don't just mean bad, it was absolutely the worst pizza I've ever had. Blech! We did not eat in any other restaurant at the resort.

We felt the resort was beautiful and enjoyed strolling around it. The staff was helpful. There was a staff person in the lobby of each of the buildings and they phoned for cabs, gave information about parks and transportation, etc--somewhat like a concierge. We enjoyed our stay at Caribe for the most part.

The BIG drawback to the resort was all transportation related. We don't rent cars on vacations since we don't wish to drive. This presented us with major issues. We finally ended up taxiing where we wanted to go because the transportation provided just didn't fit our needs.

First of all, they provided FREE transportation on a rotating basis to different places. For instance, while we were there, you could avail yourself of free transportation to EPCOT. On another day, free transportation was to Universal. It was then up to you to get yourself around from park to park once inside the WDW Resort. There was NO transportation to Downtown Disney area or the minor parks. Secondly, the times of departure left a great deal to be desired--it wasn't like you could wait 20 mins and grab a bus--the buses ran maybe 2x in the a.m., 1x late in the day, and 1x at night--closing. The pick-up at night, post fireworks, was a cattle call at best. There was pushing, shoving, etc. by guests hoping not to be left in the middle of a parking lot in EPCOT. If the bus was full--you waited another hour or so for another bus. The bus was also shared by several other off-site resorts and so stops were made there as well.

Other than the transportation issues--we really enjoyed Caribe. After our stay there, we decided we would NEVER be off property again--too much time invested in getting to and from the parks for our liking. I suppose if you wanted to drive, these would all be nonissues AND Caribe is lovely.

They no longer offer a free breakfast buffet.
I wouldn't rely on the scheduled bus transportation, I suggest renting a car. The hotel is closer to EPCOT and MGM than some of the Disney hotels.
The pool and rooms are nice. I'd say the rooms aren't as big as you think from the pictures. Fitting 6 people into a suite is probably a tight fit.
You can get good rates from the consolidators (www.quickbook.com for example)

The hotel is priced closer to a Disney moderate but has many of the features of a deluxe. Good choice if you want to stay offsite.

When did they stop offering free buffett? I just saw their website with it still on it.

We were there last June. We had 6 in our party and stayed in a room with a pull out sofa. This was the most uncomfortable sofa bed I have ever slept on. My husband ended up sleeping on the floor! The kids however liked the place.

Miko--I was told they ended the free buffet in the beginning of 2002. Their website http://www.cariberoyale.com/resort.html
used to have pictures of the buffet and listed it as an amenity. It appears that a breakfast buffet is included with some of the packages but there is no mention of it being included for all guests.

Thank you Nancy and Gillian for welcoming me back!

Thanks everyone for their inputs and the infos. We are planning to drive to Orlando so we will have our own transportation. More than likely the kids will sleep on the floor (with the comforter). So sleeping on the sofa bed is not an issue nor the transportation. OK...sounds good to me!!

I was able to book Carribe Royal for April for $159 w/ breakfast. Breakfast is no longer free unless they are having a package deal like this one I got. Then I went ahead and booked one also for June for $129 but however, the breakfast is not free. I got this rate from Mary W. Isn't that site wonderful?!

Fantasia, I'll look forward to hearing how you liked Caribe Royale. I'm seriously considering staying there next year. We always drive to the parks, so transportation isn't an issue for us.

When the breakfast was free it was of adequate quality. No better than a buffet at Golden Corrall or other similar restaurants.
If you have 6 people it might be worth the extra for the breakfast, if not just go for the lowest rate.
www.quickbook.com usually has good rates for this property, also look there.

BTW, Many of the rooms have 2 full (double) beds NOT Queen.

I had a conference to attend there for 3 days late last April, so we stayed there. I brought my mother along to look after my 4 kids while I attended the conference. (dh couldn't come due to work). I got a special rate of $118.00/nite thru HotelKingdom.com which was quite a good rate. The pool area was very nice w/ a fun slide and waterfall. The kiddie pool was separate and fenced in and had lots of fun water guns, etc. in it. Kids loved it! Also had a small playground next to it. This worked out very well for my mother to be able to watch the kids and keep them happy while I was in the conference. I don't recall if the breakfast buffet was free then or not, but it was a decent, edible breakfast. We had the one bedroom suite; it was fine for the 6 of us. I agree that it was rather dark though. It had 2 tv's which was nice. Only negatives I can think of was that one of the lights was flickering off and on when we arrived; we called housekeeping and someone promptly fixed it. The other thing was that we found a previous guest's stale muffin in the drawer of the mini-fridge which kind of grossed me out. Otherwise it did seem clean. My mother and 14 y/o dd shared the sofa-bed and they didn't complain about it being uncomfortable. Location was great! We had our own car and it was a breeze to get to Epcot, MGM, and the Boardwalk areas. To be honest though, I think we enjoyed our following 9 nights at Tropical Palms much more! And that was only $79/nite! I sure wouldn't want to pay any more than we did for Caribe Royale, but that's JMHO. Have fun!
