Hi, not Disney related, but travel related. We have the opportunity to go to an all-inclusive gorgeous resort in the Caribbean for FREE, just pay airfare (it's a work in exchange for free accom). Because the kids can come I worry about the food/water situation in the Caribbean especially the baby (almost 2 years old). There are a few resorts to pick from. The one I have my eye on is in Jamaica. Anyone been to Jamaica with kids? THX

Hi SandraC! I work in the travel field (for groups) but I am pretty familiar with quite a few resorts in the Caribbean. Most of them have separate water systems; however I would check with each property to make sure. Also, you can ask if it is an all-inclusive whether or not they provide bottled water as part of the inclusions. Some do and a lot don't.

I have never had any trouble. Last year we were with the kids at Club Viva Vallarta in Mexico and not one of us was sick - the kids were 3 and 6 at the time. I made sure I took my own medicine with me just to be safe (Pedialyte for the kids in case of diahrea, Imodium, Tylenol, etc.)

The other thing to consider when travelling to Jamaica is where the hotel is located. If the hotel is in Ocho Rios - the worst part of your trip will probably be the transfer from the airport to the property. If anyone in your party is prone to car sickness, then make sure they take ssomething for it. The roads are pretty winding and I find that the drivers there are very aggressive (to put it mildly!). There are a lot of sudden stops! If the property is closer to Montego Bay - then this is not a problem. Similarly, properties in the Negril area also have a long transfer from the airport to the property. I know that there are small planes you can take from Montego Bay to either Negril or Ocho Rios - I don't know the cost but if you are lucking out with free accom. you may want to consider this to avoid the one and half to two hour transfer time.

If you want, let me know the properties you can choose from and I'll let you know if I'm familiar with them and what I have heard. I have also found a great website called wheretostay.com and they have some great reviews there from people who have stayed at the properties.

Good luck and happy travels! I'm off to Disney this week so I may not be able to answer until after Nov. 4 if you don't ask me Monday or Tuesday!

THANKS A BUNCH! Below are a list of the resort I know of so far. There are more, but these are the ones I know right now! THANKS A BUNCH

IBEROSTAR BARLOVENTO Cuba http://www.cuba.tc/Barlovento.html

IBEROSTAR DAIQUIRI Cuba (same resort company as above)

ROYAL UVERO ALTO Punta Cana Dominican Republic http://www.yourvacationconnection.com/wedding_specials_resorts/royal_uvero_alto_resort.htm THIS IS AN ADULT ONLY RESORT

TULUM VILLAGE RESORT Cancun Mexico http://www.tulumvillageresort.com/eng/hotel.htm

BEACHES GRANDE SPORT Jamaica http://www.beaches.com/gs-home.html THIS IS MY FIRST CHOICE BUT IT BOOKS UP FAST!

PARADISUS Mexico http://www.cozumel-hotels.net/paradisus/

Hi SandraC - took a look at your list and here are my comments/concerns . . .

Cuba and the Dominican Republic - I have only been to Cuba myself (and that was over 10 years ago) - my concern with both of these destinations is health care - God forbid anything would happen but I think you would have a better chance of getting help in Jamaica or Mexico - as far as the properties in Cuba go - if they are in Varadero you have to be careful about where they are located as I have heard that there is an area of the beach there that is very close to an area that smells terrible - I don't know if this is an all year thing but I have heard that there is one end of the beach that is not a good place to be - could be rumour but you never know

Domincan Republic - I have not heard of the Royal Uvero Alto in Punta Cana and it is not in my Official Hotel Guide - the website states it is an "adults only" all-inclusive though so if you want to go with your children, this will not be an option - some all-inclusives are adults only (usually 16 years old and up) so you have to watch for this before you book if you have children

Jamaica - Beaches - this property is located in Ocho Rios so it will be a one hour to one and a half hour transfer time from the airport in Montego Bay - it is also an adult's only property for 16 years and over - it looks beautiful and has a Superior First Class rating in the Official Hotel Guide - Beaches is a part of the Sandals chain of properties and Sandals has a great reputation in terms of service and food so this would be a good choice

Cozumel, Mexico - Paradisus Mexico - out of all the properties you listed, this looks to be the most kid friendly; although I did see something mentioning 3 guests only per room (I can't remember if this was for this property or for the Tulum Village - check the websites again) so you may need to check this out if you have 2 adults/2 kids - they have a Children's Club for ages 2-12 years old and most resorts will only look after your children if they are at least 4 years old and toilet trained - I don't know if I would leave my children with some of the attendants they have there and if the ratio of kids is high (ie. 10 kids at club to one attendant), I would be wary. In saying this, however, I did leave my 3 and a half year old with her 6 year old sister at the kids club at Viva Vallarta last year as she begged me to leave and let her do the crafts/play with the other kids (I checked back with them often though)! There were also only 4 kids with 2 attendants so I thought the ratio was pretty safe! In my Official Hotel Guide it lists the Paradisus Cozumel as a First Class property built in 1972 and renovated in 1997. The only other concern about this property is its location - would you be flying into Cozumel - if so no problem as it would probably only be a 10 to 15 minute transfer from the airport - if you have to fly into Cancun and then transfer to Cozumel it will require a 1 hour transfer by bus/car and then a ferry ride to Cozumel which can be rough (when I did the ferry transfer from the mainland to Cozumel, quite a few people were sick but I think that it was an exceptionally rough day on the seas)

Tulum Village, Mexico - this is a one to one and a half hour drive from Cancun's airport - this property looks like the quietest out of all of them - no mention of kids facilities on the website so you may want to check that out - it is not listed in my Official Hotel Guide so I can't give you arating (if the properties are not listed in there, it may be because they are not affiliated with a major hotel chain or they did not pay the fee to be part of the listing)

I hope this helps you out - let me know if you need any more info on other properties you can consider.

THANKS YOU SO MUCH! Your assistance is very valuable. I never had the desire to go to the Caribbean unless a trip fell into my lap, and I guess it did. I am a yoga and fitness instructor and several other instructors have joined a group that arranges us to teach 4 or 5 days per week (no more than 90 minutes a day) in exchange for free accomodations for ourselves and a companion and occasionally the whole family. I am waiting for listings for the whole family. I know there are more resorts, but haven't gotten around to requesting the full list. The more flexible I am the more opportunities to travel. I would be more incline to travel to Europe than the Caribbean (the bugs must to HUGE in the Caribbean LOL). But all I pay is airfare and the resorts are all-inclusive. I will wait to see what is offered, I was just hired last week. For know I am enjoying teaching my classes at home and saving Disney $$$$! THANKS AGAIN!

No problem SandraC! Whenever you need some help you can email me directly if you want at gerwri@aol.com.

Happy "lotusing" (I think that's a yoga position but I'm not sure!)

Got another odd question ~ what are the bugs like?

Hi SandraC - just returned from Disney yesterday - had a great trip!

Re bugs in the Caribbean - I did not find them to be any worse than what you experience in Florida. Most resorts spray like they do in Disney to control them.

Gotta run - it's back to reality and I have to pick up my daughter from ballet class!
