just wondering if anyone has been on the Caribbean Princess and DCL can let me know what the major differences are? i can book a cat 6 on princess right now for same date as nov 13 cruise for 4 people for $2600. just wondering if it will be worth doing princess til DCL gets other ships to lower the cost!!!!!! thanks

Three "sisters" in a brand new class of ship are all being released spring and summer this year....the Caribbean, the Saphire and the Diamond. I don't remember just wehn the Caribbean was to go into service. The other two go on line, to Alaska, in June.

We are sailing on the Sapphire on its third cruise, on July 4. I am anxious to see this new ship, and compare it to the Star, which we were on last year, and it was fairly new into service then. And these three new ships are supposed to be better yet.

So I am also waiting to hear what others feel about the Caribbean Princess when it starts sailing. There are not even any pictures of these three ships on the Princess web site....only the mock-ups.

need more great information. i like what i got. has anyone been on the golden princess then? thanks

I sailed on Princess some time ago and LOVED it! I'm sure things may have changed since the industry as a whole has changed but, these were things I really liked: The dinners were spectacular. They would bring a menu for each course with so many choices for each course. There were appetizers, soups, salads, entrees, desserts and palate cleansers. Wonderful Italian dining staff. Great staff, interesting ports. The stateroom was large. I wouldn't hesitate to sail Princess again.

We sailed the "Grand Princess" a few years ago and it was very nice. Since it was our first ever cruise we really didn't experience everything that was available. I did enjoy the pool cover up when the weather was nasty.

I didn't like the way the dining was handled and all but 2 dining rooms were set up for extra chargers, (similar to palos). It does have a casino if you are into it and the entertainment even in the main theater is more adult orientated.

Even though we had a verandar, I felt the staterooms were smaller than Disney.

I guess since we started sailing Disney we are definitely spoiled.

Enjoy your cruise as any cruise is better than none.

We have been on the golden princess twice. THere are many good things to say about the ship and the experience. The food is much better than disney's--especially the buffet.
The personal choice dining was great for us in terms of convenience. The drawback is that the wait staff is not incented to be friendly or attentive. You get different waiters every night and that makes a difference. Of course, you could opt for the traditional dining with the same wait staff every night. We just preferred flexibility.

The staterooms are clean, well maintained, but smaller than disney. There is plenty of storage space. The cabin stewards on both golden sailings were EXCELLENT. Friendly, efficient, courteous. ANy time we went into and out of the cabins, they went right in and cleaned up. They were always smiling and greeted us by name.

The big down side is that although there is a kids club and plenty for the kids to do, they are not really "welcome" THere were many older folks and some of the ship's staff as well, that seemed less than pleased to have so many kids on the ship. THat being said, the pool areas never felt as claustrophobic as on the disney ships. WHile I like the overall DCL experience, the pools drove me completely nuts. It has got to be a saafety hazard to allow so many kids in the mickey and goofy pools at once. THese pools were so busy and so loud that my husband really would prefer never to go on disney again. It is that crowded and uncomfortable. I am surprised that the magic and wonder do not have more bathing options. THe only rules the lifeguards enforced were the keeping the babies out of the pool. Parents also do not watch their kids. It made me nuts.

On princess, WE always got deck chairs when we wanted them.

Disney had first run movies on the ship and we really enjoyed that. Princess had movies that were alreadyout on DVD showing in their theatres.

ALl of this being said--these are both beautiful, exciting superb ships and we would go on either one again in a heartbeat. No vacation is perfect. We just try to keep our expectations realistic. Princess has cruisers on board. On the disney ships, it always feels like we are in the theme parks. That is good and bad!

I was watching a video of the Caribbean and the Diamond Princess ships, and when they panned through the Lotus Spa I spied my very favorite activity previously available ONLY on DCL.....heated marble lounges !!!!!!!!! Seems they have added to these new ships something akin to the Rain Forest. I am so happy. We will be crusing to Alaska on the breand spanking new Sapphire Princess in less than two months.
