I booked a water/pool view room thinking I was requesting a room close to the main pool/food court. Can anyone tell me if I requested the wrong type of room- should I have requested a preferred room? Is it too late to do so?

Yes you booked the wrong type of room. A water/pool view could be overlooking a quiet pool. Call and change it to a preferred village location.
