just called, preferred bldgs are all non smoking rooms, no fair, lol. thanks for the heads up in this thread

Is the bus system really bad at CB since there are so many rooms? My dad is worried that if we request Jamaica since that is not near the first bus stop then there will not be enough room for us when it comes around. Is it wise to take 5 mins and walk to the first bus stop so we are sure to get on or is that a dumb idea?

usually not an issue. On the way home at close it is busy, but they all are. i cannot remember a time leaving to go and having a full bus.

andi b,

We were in Trinidad South, bldg 39 upstairs, corner room. Very quiet. We did not find the bus issue to be a problem. In the morning the bus was never too full to sit. Coming home was a couple of times, but more often than not it wasn't a problem. We would use the bus system again. There were only two of us-no kids. That might make a difference. There usually weren't that many folks waiting to board at Trinidad South-Jamaica & Aruba seemed to be pretty full as I recall.

We are planning a vacation to WDW in July with my 10 year old son and his 60 year old grandmother.

We are trying to decide between the CBR and the Swan. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Or any other suggestions on resorts???

Thank you for any help.

When we were there lasy May we specifically requested Jamaica (per the advice from many DISers); we were told on these boards that Jamaica is almost always the very first bus stop to pick up and drop off. It turned out to be very true - I would say about 85-90% of the time and it is the reason why we requested Jamaica for our upcoming Sept. trip. We were in Bldg. 45 and ended up getting an upgrade to a preferred view room (corner room) overlooking the lake and the walkbridge that takes you over to the Old Port Royale Food Court (about a 4-5 beatuful walk to get there). Let me know if you have any questions:)

I don't know if this was asked yet, but I went back a ways in the thread and couldn't really find it...

I was wondering if the main pool at OPR is very crowded all day, or if the quiet pools are better. Also, is there somewhere shady to sit while my daughter is in the pool? And how would you rate the bar at the pool?

Thanks
Karen

Banana Cabana the bar is great at CBR. Don't remember any shady spots at the main pool. The main pool can get crowded at times. I don't think the quiet pools get very crowded or at least they never were when we used them.

When we were at CBR late April to early May in 2003 - the main pool was extremely crowded. Hard to find a place to sit. We spent our pool time at the quiet pool, which was practically empty!!:sunny:

Go to the "private" pools during the day. There was a little shade near the Barbados pool. Check out the main pool at night and the bar. There use to be live music at night at the bar but read somewhere that it has been discontinued.

A silly question....but.....I think I read that there are coffee makers in the rooms? What size are they?? The 4 cup ones or are they bigger?

4 cup I beleve it was. I don't drink coffee, but my wife really enjoyed it.

Hey now!!
The coffee makers are 4 cup but there is a catch to these makers.
If you only drink regular coffee then you are all set.

If you are an avid flavored coffee drinker then you are gonna be let down by what they give you for coffee.

The problem is that the filters that they give you are a filter/coffee
combination. Therefore if you take down your own flavored coffee and ask them for filters thats what you will get, this combo filter.

So make sure that you bring your own filters if you are bringing your own coffee. Otherwise you get to cut the filter, fill it with your own coffee and hope the coffee doesnt bleed into the pot when brewing..what happened to me.

Okay, I am hooked!!

I have enjoyed reading this thread-- Thanks to safetymom and others for all the helpful info!!

I am in the "pre-planning" stage of trip to DW next year, probably in early May. In other words, have not made ressies yet, but now I am reading everything about DW that I can find online; websites, boards (DISBoards being my favorite site, of course!), etc.

This thread has convinced me to stay at CBR, definitely!! The last time I went to DW was quite some time ago (1996), and we did stay on-site then, at Dixie Landings. I don't really have anything negative to say about POR; everything was great there, and the grounds were beautiful, but want to try another place. Enjoyed safetymom's pics and can see that the tropical theming of CBR is something that DD and I will love. The bright colors make the place look festive and fun--can't wait to end the "pre-planning" and begin the planning!!

llrain, I had to go look at your pics right away--they are gorgeous!! The hammocks on the beach look particularly inviting to this poor, tired mommy...

I am so psyched to go after reading the boards, finding out all this CBR info. If money was no object, I would go sooner...

A question about the villages; building locations. I have read about Martinique and Trinidad North being most convenient to OPR and main pool area, and about Aruba and Jamaica being a close walk while a little off the beaten track, and Trinidad S as being very inconvenient as to be unappealing, but how about Barbados? I have not heard hardly anything about this area.

Anybody have an opinion/feedback about Barbados, location-wise and otherwise?

Barbados is a little far but you wouldn't have to cross the lake. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the locations at CBR. Many people like Trinidad South because it seems like its own little resort back there.

Love this thread :D Thanks Safetymom and all the others for the valuable information. Been reading them all for several weeks.

I posted on another thread (by mistake- Newbie confusion) as to whether or not the Carribean Beach will allow a microwave in the room? Does anyone have any thoughts? I thought it would be a nice added convenience, but I'm starting to hear this might not be a good idea.

Thanks!
