Caribbean Beach FAQ part V

The coffee makers use more of a pod than a K-Cup, kind of like the Senseo pods. Not exactly, but similar. I loaded up on sugar when we were at OPR and just brought it back to the room.

We drove down, so I can't help with the shipping from Wal-Mart question. Although, the our last trip we flew and I placed an order with Garden Grocer. That was very easy.

would senso pods work if we brought some with us? DH prefers flavored coffee.

From 5/21/2012 - 5/26/2012 for our honeymoon!

•This was my first time staying at Caribbean Beach Resort. (3rd time at a moderate.)

•We had the opportunity to upgrade to Caribbean Beach from All-Star Music, because I was rehired with the company again, so we went for it!

•We had a couple of hiccups checking in and out at the Custom House which I later emailed WDW Guest Services about, but other than that…everyone else we encountered was great! Very personable cast members that would stop and chat.

•The grounds were immaculate and the theme around the resort is so much fun.

•We were in Aruba, about a 7 minute walk to Old Port Royale, but I didn't mind at all. I actually loved meandering through the little island in the middle.

•Old Port Royale had a great selection for food. We ate breakfast and lunch there quite a few times. We also dined at Shutters, which was a wonderful experience!

•We had a King Bed room--which was bliss! The room was clean upon arrival and was cleaned regularly by mousekeeping.

•The small pool in Aruba was nice and intimate and the beach was my favorite spot to relax at. (We never utilized the large pool, however they always had games and activities, which would be fun for the whole family!)

•We never waited terribly long for the busses. They would show up pretty regularly. Aruba was the 2nd to last stop before heading out to the parks, so we were on our way pretty quickly. On the way back to be dropped off, Aruba was the 6th(?) stop, so we always chose to get off at Old Port Royale and walk back.

Help convince me. We were booked at AoA LM rooms but just changed today for free dining. We wanted TS dining so had trouble deciding between POP (paying upgrade) and CBR. It is still $248 more than POP to stay at CBR with free dining for 11 nights. We love POP too so I'm questioning if that $250 could be spent better elsewhere. My kids and husband will be disappointed we are not staying in AoA. I plan to sell it with these facts (I'm not entirely convinced myself:

More room, big pool with slide, tropical landscape, host resort for Wine and Dine (I'm running). What else can I say to convince them.

And... What is the best standard view location close to main pool and limited transportation/walking.

The pool at CBR is very nice, That is why I did not change us to AoA

You've already stated many of the obvious plusses the CBR has to offer.

Since you'll be in Disney for 11 days, you'll probably be working some resort time into your plans. There are nightly outdoor movies and a marshmallow roast just outside of Old Port Royale. At the resort marina, you can rent surrey bikes, bicycles and all sort of watercraft and the prices are reasonable. There's also a pool table (free of charge each time we've visited) at the marina.

Each resort village has a quiet pool, laundry room, beach and bus stop. It's nice to be able to either visit the beach or swim while doing laundry. Speaking of bus stops, like I said, there's one in each village so you won't have far to walk to catch the bus. Because the resort is centrally located, it doesn't take long to get to any Disney destination. The buses do stop at each village before leaving the resort but it doesn't take long to make the loop.

The island in the middle of the resort has a playground for the kids and hammocks for the adults. There are several seating areas on the island as well.

The main pool is zero entry and has two slides. For the younger kids, there's a separate play area which has a pirate theme. Also near the main pool are two hot tubs. If the girls in the group want to have their hair wrapped, there's a station right outside Old Port Royale.

The food court is set up similar to the one at Pop with several stations. You'll find a variety of foods to choose from at breakfast, lunch and dinner and we've never had a problem finding a table in the large seating area. Just outside of Old Port Royale are quite a few umbrella tables and picnic tables. If you want to eat outside, just ask the castmembers for covers for your food items. The kids' chicken nugget meals come in a plastic sand pail with shovel that they can use when playing on the beach.

At night, you can see the higher EPCOT fireworks from many areas in the resort. We've watched them from Old Port Royale, Martinique and Barbados.

Hum, I am sure that I've left something out but that's all I can think of right now. I have pictures of our most recent stay in my trip report. The link is in my signature below if you want to join in.

Oh wait, you asked about standard room locations. We've stayed in Jamaica 41 and 42, Barbados 11, Aruba 51 and Martinique 23, all of which are standard rooms. Our longest walk was from our room in Barbados and it was a 7 1/2 minute walk to Old Port Royale. All others were about a 5 minute walk.

From what I have read here on the DIS, Walmart does not ship water, juice, etc to any of the resorts like they used to. Now everyone either uses gardengrocer.com or wegoshop.com

Ok say if I order from garden grocer. Does CBR deliver that to your room if it is ordered before we leave ? What if we call while we are there and place an order or can we do that ? Anyway how does it work when your order arrives at CBR do they bring it to the room or do we go to customs and pick it up?

We've always had the order waiting for us at Bell services when we get there. We go there pick it up and then Bell services takes us and all our luggage to our room. Pretty sure they would deliver it if you ask, but they don't do it automatically. You could order while you are there, but chances are they are all booked up. GG only does so many deliveries per day and it's usually a good idea to order 2-3 weeks before you go. They are experts at these Disney deliveries, the Disney CMs also expect these orders and no how to handle them. The whole process is seamless and stress free.

when I've ordered from GG in the past, they usually are all booked up for that day and the following. For example, if if you go on the website now, it says there'es no more deliveries available for tomorrow ( and I assume today)

As the PPs said, you'd want to order 1-2 weeks ahead of your check-in date. Both times I have used GG (once at CBR and the other at the Beach Club), they made our delivery prior to us checking in. In fact, they called me to say they made the delivery to CBR when we were still in NY and actually on our way to the airport. Bell Services will hold your order (and refrigerate whatever needs to be) until you arrive and then deliver the stuff to your room. As stated also by the PP, it's stress free. GG makes so many deliveries to WDW resorts every single day that they and the resorts CMs have the process down to a science.

The quote I rec'd says ...

Water or Pool View Included (Price)
Pirate - Standard View +$50.76
Pirate - Water View +$303.84

I chose the Pirate - Standard View thinking that it would be a Preferred room, as in closer to the main pool and food court. Was I thinking wrong? Could I have requested a Preferred room but not a Pirate theme?

We haven't been to WDW in 6+ years so it's all new to me again.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that the Pirate rooms are in buildings furthest away from the food court and main pool.

I have a quick question. I booked through our AAA travel agent and had her put in a request for 1st floor in a building near food court (doesn't have to be a preferred building) for medical issues. What do you think my chances of getting our request? Do you think I should have her put in the exact medical issue to have a better shot of getting at least the 1st floor?

It is my understanding the Pirate rooms are not in the preffered room area. And yes you can book a room that is Preferred but not Pirate themed.

The pirate themed rooms are NOT preferred. They're actually the furthest rooms from the main pool and food court. Even so, it's only about an 8 minute walk for us. Preferred rooms have a modest Finding Nemo theme to them (as do all the other non-pirate rooms at the resort). I'd recommend you rebook a non-pirate, preferred room if it's important to you to be close to the main pool and food court.

I haven't been able to find an answer to this question. Does anyone know what time the nightly campfires are held at the beach? I'd imagine it probably changes depending on the time of year. I think the movie starts at 9pm each day. I'm looking particularly at the month of August so I can develop a rough schedule before we leave.

Well I messed up. :headache: And now only the Pirate theme rooms are avail. for our dates.

I guess walking 8 min. for a soda or coffee or whatever in the morning won't be that bad. Looking on the bright side, it'll help burn off the extra calories right? ;)
