I am wanting to know pros and cons of each as it relates to their themed rooms. If you could pick from the Pirate room at the Carib or Royalty room at Riverside which would you pick? My kids like both so lets get the which one is their favorite out of the way. Price wise they appear to be pretty close as well.

I found the pirate rooms really really far from the main house/pool at CBR. I found the royal rooms location wise not bad. How old are your kids? I found that at CBR they had a nice water play area for little kids right next to the pool and I believe zero entry. PoR has a nice pool but for smaller kids ( under 5) CBR might be better.

We first stayed in the Pirate room then moved to 10 days in the Royal room and there is NO comparison in the two. Pirate room is a cute idea and we were excited about sleeping in the boats. The boats and box furniture is well themed and loved the design in the carpet. But the beds are FULLS and were hard. The room is brown, brown, brown. There was very little on the walls. It was like they got this great carpet installed pulled in great furniture and then they were done. The Pirate rooms are located the farthest from everything at the resort. We actually looked at the POP Century buildings from our room. It was very isolating.

Royal room was beautiful and everywhere you looked were more themed details. The beds are QUEENS and the headboard's so cool with the built in fireworks. The room was full of regal color, art on walls, details in everything even the aladdin lamp faucets. Clearly much effort went into every inch of the room. Each time we came in to the room it felt like a treat. The buildings are located not far from the main hub just over the bridge. We walked a few minutes to get there and used the bus stop at the main building. We were also a short walk to POFQ so we enjoyed a few breakfasts over there.

Our kids are DD 6.5 and DS 4. He will be turning 4 a few weeks before going so its kind of his birthday trip. The other concern is proximity to buses since that is how we will get around to the parks. I read elsewhere that Caribbean is undergoing a makeover in April and we will be there in late May. I am curious if it will be too much construction.

At Pirate rooms you will have a long walk to main pool/hub or you can take inner bus. We ended up driving everywhere rather than do their bus system.

My boys loved the Pirate rooms at CBR. The theming was adorable in our opinion and we loved the idea of sleeping in boats and then barrel shaped furniture. The downside was that they are a long walk from the main area of the resort. If I remember correctly there was a bus stop not terribly far from our room though.

Permits have been pulled for every village except Trinidad South, which is where the Pirate rooms are. So no worries there.

Correct. Every village has its own bus stop. The furthest Pirate room is 75 yards from the bus stop.

Thanks for your review :goodvibes. I have wanted to try por and was thinking about the bayou rooms due to them being preferred. Sound like the royal rooms would be a great choice too. So, they are close to the first bus stop then?

You can either walk over the bridge to the main hub and get the first stop in front of the store (South Depot) or you can get the bus stop on the road next to the parking area by the buildings (East Depot). It will really depend on which building you are in as to which is more convenient. We liked the walk over the bridge and being the first on the bus. We were in Oak in the courtyard facing the parking lot. It was only a few minutes walk to the South Depot.

There are only a four buildings in Bayou considered preferred and having stayed there I wouldn't book 14 or 15. I don't want to be that close to the food court, pizza delivery trucks and all the other vehicles that enter the back of the food court via behind these buildings. We think 16 and 17 are best of all worlds, close to food court/main hub, quiet pool and our car. But do love 27 that overlooks the river, mill etc.

Where did you find this map? Is there one like it of Caribbean?

Those pirate rooms are a ways away from everything.

Yep. From the farthest point of Trinidad South it's around 9 minutes to OPR and the main pool at a leisurely pace. At least there is a quiet pool and bus stop very close.
