My 15 yo daughter is an always-homeschooled kid & just finished 10th grade.
She's already thinking about applying for Career Start in Fall 2010 (early August bday).
Anyone know Disney's attitude toward homeschoolers applying to the Career Start program?
She will have an accredited diploma & probably some community college coursework when she graduates.

Also, does anyone know the general numbers for how many apply and how many are accepted?

TIA

As long as the diploma is accredited and appropriately dated, that should be fine. You may want to call the contact center at 1-800-722-2930 to make sure. Keep in mind that eligibility requirements may change between now and then, though.

As far as the number of candidates and role offers, there aren't any hard numbers- College Recruiting handles both the CareerStart and College Programs on a rolling basis. The program is competitive though, with a large emphasis placed on the interview phase. If your daughter can assert a positive, outgoing personality during the interview, she will likely stand a good shot of being offered a role.

I know a home schooled girl from our town went the same time my daughter did. Unfortunately she did not like it at all and came home within a couple of weeks.

Thanks for sharing that story for your DD's experiences.....but just because two girls are both homeschooled doesn't mean that they share the same views and experiences. Of course there are many reasons one might not like the program enough to stay, and it is good to know about those who left the program just as much as those who loved it and extended and came back for 3 or 4 programs.

But the OP was just asking about if her DD would be eligible for the program, and she will have a good bit of time to figure out if the program is right for her and learn about others' experiences with it.

Yes I am aware of that - I thought it might be interpreted that way when I typed it up and I am sorry for that. For the record she also had roommates through her year that were termed (both Career Start), one that self termed (Career Start), one that just up and left mid way through (International).

She had one Career Start roommate that stayed and extended.

Again sorry if it came off abrupt.
