With rental rates skyrocketing, does anyone have experience with any of the car sharing companies like Turo?

Saw some other threads recently on here where those online taxi companies are now charging 'surge' pricing, so you might want to look into that to avoid surprises during peak times.

Turo is not ride-sharing like Uber or Lyft; it's renting a car from a private party, like AirBnB for cars.

One poster, I think on DIS, had their rental reservation on Turo cancelled. Was told they could rebook at a higher rate. Car owner thought he could get more money for the rental.

We used Turo for a couple days on our trip last week. We've used it before so we knew how it worked going in. Just stick with owners that have tons of ratings so you have less chance of running into any issues. That way you are renting from someone that is basically operating a car rental business instead of a person that is just renting out their car once in a while for a little extra cash. We rented a Tesla that had over 100 trips. Pick up and drop off were quick and easy. Didn't even have to meet them if we didn't want to.

I'd also check your auto insurance because most don't consider Turo a car rental company so you might not be covered and will want to purchase the Turo insurance.

Great info. I didn't think about the insurance.
I suspect, that like ride sharing, Car sharing will become more popular if rental car company prices remain elevated. I would think that borrowing a car from a stranger is less risky than getting in a car with a stranger; as long as you are protected with insurance for any property damage.
