Is the cost of renting a car for a 6 day stay significantly higher than using a car service?

There would be 4 of us so we would rent a midsize

I'm guessing renting a car will probably run $50-60/day (you might be able to find it cheaper). So that's $300-360.

I believe car services are ~$100-120 one way. So say $200-250?

Car rentals are super expensive nowadays. I will be going to wdw in February. I needed a 7 days rental. I was looking for companies with booth inside the airport. I could not get any car from a reputable company for less than $500 a week (and that was for a smaller car). Since I will be staying at boardwalk, I hired a private driver for our family. It will cost is $220 roundtrip.

This is the ballpark estimate I am looking for. So it will be more expensive but might be worth it for convenience and possibly use during the week.

Trips to the airport and one day heading to Universal might be worth the extra cost.

I have to decide what I am willing to pay for convenience

yeah, if you are staying at Universal, or not staying at WDW hotel, might be worth it

What your needs are change the equation. If you just need a ride from the airport when you arrive and to the airport when you leave, a car service would be cheaper. If you want to go to the store, go to different restaurants/theme parks/tourist stops, a rental car makes sense.

Note: If you have a larger group (more than 4) then this gets even nuttier. The rental cars go substantially up in price, while Uber XL, mears, etc, don't get much more expensive for a larger vehicle.

We would have 3 adults and a toddler

Car seat needed? If so, then driving may be better, or renting, as most car share's won't have a car seat.

But shuttle buses, etc don't need them.

Could you tell me what company you used? Thank you!

I was in FL last week and had a car for a week for $240. I booked through Enterprise and was given an aisle to choose from, I spent the week driving a 2021 Chrysler minivan. If staying offsite or doing things other than Disney, I think renting is better. A car service is great if you're only going from the airport to a Disney Resort and then back to the airport at the end of the trip.

When you price it out, factor in tipping the driver each way, too. That adds to the cost.

Re rental car, try Priceline to get a feel for all the rates. Avoid prepaid for flexibility if price drops

Quotes are easily obtainable in one place on Auto slash (where u can also monitor a trip for drops)

With some diligence and timing a weekly rental is generally doable $200 to $300, dependent on dates, car class and your eligible discounts/affiliations

I wont deal With offsite/shuttle sites & absolutely not with the lessor known vendors. just too many horror stories there

Many do swear by Costco here. If a member u might want to ck

AAA discounts have been working again for me last few rentals to the point they are less than the mr’s work/corporate discount

if you can get a rental for around that price, that is great.

However, in 2023, it is really hard to find a weekly rate from reputable companies inside the airport for less than $350, unless you have some sort of discount , which I assume most people don't.

Rental prices are crazy expensive now. the demand is really high, lots of people are having a reservation and still not able to get a car because it is not available on the day of pickup.

We have a Camry, rented from Budget via Costco, for $247 this week. I assume you include Costco in having a discount, though.

I was at MCO last week and had a rental with Enterprise for $242. I looked on Saturday before I left and there were options for 9 of the 10 rental companies with cars onsite for $305 or less. The rental car market is not nearly as tight as it was in 2021.
