can anyone clarify age/weight for car seats in the us please?
our dd is 7 but v tall and "big"(not fat, def not fat, but solid muscle due to her skating and not petite and small boned if you know what i mean)
what are the regs, is it height/weight/age??
if am reluctant to take a booster as she hasnt had one in this country for the last 18months, but if we need to then we will....
thanks
tracy

I'm sure the legal age is once you are over 4 you don't need to be in a booster seat. If your daughter is big and doesn't use a seat here then she should be ok over there. My ds was 8 last time we went and he is also very tall and we never used a booster for him over there

thanks, that helps, i dont want to get pulled over;)

Here is a link I found for Broward County, Florida. It says:

Children from approximately 40-80 pounds and under 4'9" in height should ride in a booster seat.

Not sure how tall or how much your daughhter weighs, hope this is useful.

I am going to take a very old one I have and leave it there. I took it last time meaning to leave it and got it home again - before the tighter luggage limits.

Its a hard thing to judge especially when every state has different rules. And its different again in England. I always feel like I am the only person bringing carseats when I travel home to the UK, it makes me crazy but what can you do. Hope you have a great trip!

I picked up a cheap styrofoam one from Argos for about £5 and just left it there and will probably do the same in October. I'll have to take a "proper" carseat for the baby though.

At home both my boys are always in high backed boosters in my car as neither is 150cm yet. (The legal minimum of 135cm is a UK cop-out - in most of the rest of the EU it's 150cm). However, when my kids go out with other people, my oldest (10) doesn't always go on a booster. He is 147cm, so technically in the UK he doesn't need it. My younger son (8) is not yet 135cm, so when out with other people he does use a booster. I will be bringing a booster cushion to the US for my younger son, and also a proper car seat for our toddler.

Hi,

the info we have from our suppliers is that children up to and including the age of 6 need to be restrained in a child / booster seat.

Hope that helps,

Arnie
