car seats on Mears?

We are going to Disney next week, staying at the CB, and will be taking Mears to the hotel. We have a 2 1/2yo and 1 yo. Do we need to bring car seats with us just for the trip to the hotel? It seems crazy to cart them all the way there for a 30 minute ride. I know kids don't use car seats on the Disney shuttle buses, but should we bring them for Mears? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

What are the kids going to sit in on the plane? The seat belt on the plane will NOT hold kids that age, they are lap belts only and meant for adult restraint.

actually, we just flew with them, but grandma picked us up (& has her own carseats), so didn't need them on the plane. The little one is not quite one, so she was a lap baby anyway ... the airlines allow that up to 2 years old, then they have to buy a seat. The 2 yo is almost three and did fine in the plane using the seatbelts. From what I've seen, most parents don't use a carseat in the plane. Even if they bring one, they usually check it. Whether or not they should use them on the plane is I guess up for debate ...

I travel a lot and I see most of the families using car seats. I would recommend it for your 2 and 1/2. Also, if my some miracle there are empty seats on your flight they might let you put the infant in one.

I was wondering the same thing also. I have an almost 3 yr old and a 4 yr old and I wasn't planning on bringing the car seats. Does anyone know if Mears supplies them?

Since no one seemed to know, and our trip is fast approaching (yay!) I finally thought to call Mears directly and found that you do not need a car seat for children in a Mears airport shuttle. Florida law does require car seats for children I think age 5 and under, but in passenger cars and vans. According to Mears, the law does not require them in airport shuttle buses. And, I also found out that Mears does not supply car seats. If you do want one, you have to bring your own.

Not to sound naive, but what will you do on the car ride to the hotel? Cross your fingers? I think it is well worth the effort to bring car seats on the plane and in the car to the hotel. No one ever plans to get in an accident and if something were to happen you would spend the rest of your life living in regret. It seems a small price to pay to lug car seats across the country -- or at least hire a car agency that supplies car seats. To my knowledge, many of them do! Also, if you do not plan on bringing the carseat at least look into using a large shuttle bus. Believe it or not, an unrestrained child is much safer on a bus than a restrained child in a car.

Whatever you decide, have a wonderful and safe vacation!

We are taking a large shuttle bus. That's what Mears is, or at least that's the type of service we are using from Mears to get to the hotel from the airport. We aren't renting a car, or we definitely would be bringing our car seats or renting them from the car agency. Mears doesn't rent them for their buses. I agree with you, it didn't seem like the car seats would work in a large shuttle bus, like the kind Disney has to take you from park to park. Thanks for the info.

We are also using the Mears shuttle bus to the resort and back to the airport. We are not renting a car, we are using Disney transportation.

I am so sorry! I did not realize that Mears was a shuttle bus, I thought it was a towncar/taxi type service. Actually, shuttle buses are safer than cars! Most don't even have seat belts, so even if you lugged your car seat across country, you only would have succeeded in giving yourself a workout!

Have a wonderful trip,
Jennifer

There are buses and vans. The vans hold 11 passengers and no car seats.
