Car Seats on Magical Express

In my very normal Disney obsessed mind I keep coming up with questions for our trip to WDW in March 2007. I know I have a looooong time to wait but I am so excited I can't contain myself, much less concentrate on work.

We will have three kids with us (ages at the time of the trip) - DD (almost 4); DS (18 months); DNephew (almost 3). Needless to say they will still be in carseats at that time. Do I need to haul them along for the Magical Express? We are staying onsite (just booked 2, 2bd suites at Wilderness Lodge - Yippee! :Pinkbounc ) and will not be venturing off into the wild world.

Thanks for your input!!

Thanks, Molly

no. carseats are not used on Disney transportation, you can leave them home

You're flying without carseats??? I used my carseat on the Magical Express because the commute was on a major highway. I would have nver felt comfortable without it.

How did you use a carseat on Magical Express? We took it last month with my 2yo and our bus had no seatbelts so if we had brought her carseat along I couldn't have used it anyway since there would have been no way to belt it in. We have always flown with a carseat but I'm pregnant and flew alone with her on that trip and took Magical Express so we left the carseat home and everything was fine, both on the bus and on the plane in her own seat with just the seatbelt.

I was going to ask the same question...We are flying with my DS2 who will be in his carseat on the plane. We're just going to store it with the luggage on ME and keep it in a corner till we need it on the plane ride home. With no seatbelts on ME I would think there would be more of a chance of injury with a child in a non belted carseat then next to mommy or daddy.

Yep - I am a bad mommy! No flying with car seats once they are forward facing, just too much trouble on the plane. It is so much safer to fly than drive anyway. I usually check them to be used once we get to our destination and don't mind bringing them if I need to. However, I believe that the pp is correct and a it is more dangerous to have a child in an unsecured car seat than in a seat next to Mom and Dad. Can't remember where I heard that one. I'll call Disney to confirm about the seatbelts or lack of on Magical Express.

Thanks for your responses!

Number one, the DME motorcoaches don't have seatbelts on them, period.

Number two, the Disney Transport buses, the way you get from your resort to the parks and back, also don't have seatbelts. The Disney Transport buses are more like city buses -- no padding, hard molded plastic seats, etc.

I absolutely agree that an unsecured car seat is much more dangerous to the child and to others than a child held by a parent or next to a parent. In any sort of motor vehicle collision, anything not belted down becomes a missile. The heavier the missile, the more force it has, and thus the more force (resistance) required to keep in from moving. If the child is in an unsecured car seat, they weigh more, and thus are that much harder to wrangle in that instant of impact. This is not only more dangerous for the child, but also more dangerous for you and/or anyone else that missile may strike.

I'll have my wife read this post later tonight. I'm just a Dumb Dad (my kids were 5 and 2.5 when we went last May), but my wife is a pediatrician, and she'll enjoy correcting me if I'm wrong here.
