My next trip will be the first with our new baby. The baby will be about 12mon when we go, do we need to rent a car so we can use a car seat or can we use the disney bus wihout one and just hold the baby? I can't remember in the past if I saw this done or not. I think we need a car but I was just wondering. Thanks! :confused3

We always use Disney transportation on our trips and there are no car seats on the buses. Parents either hold their baby or use a Snugglie (a baby sling) on the bus.

You cannot use car seats on any of the Disney busses, but I wouldn't be concerned. If you use a rental you will have your own carseat but will also be paying parking fee's & the cost of a rental.

You will need to collapse your stroller upon entering the busses and can hold your child on your lap. We began going to WDW when our DD was 14 mo. old and she just sat on our laps. During that trip, we actually had a rental car w/car seat in it and it was not worth the hassle to us to use.

No parking fees if you are staying at a Disney resort and going to Disney parks, it is an "onsite" perk for all Disney operated resorts.

We always rent a car and will do so until our DD's are old enough to be out of a carseat, then we will take advantage of ME. I don't expect disney to provide carseats on their buses, that is why we opt to rent a car. I also have a strange DH, who feels the need to have a car!! I guess I'm overprotective but I can't imagine going on major roadways, with my kids not properly secured. Accidents happen, even on vacation. Janice

What I think you should really do is get a LARGE stroller and then get on a packed bus. Then try to fold up your stoller to save bus room but what you really do is hit about 9 people around you with your stoller while swinging it around.

Sorry, I had to rant.

Hmm, would I want to be in a car when it gets hit by a bus, or in the bus itself? I think buses are actually safer in accidents, especially when the other vehicle is a car...

Thanks for all the input. Here in NJ the kids are in car seats untill 5-6 depending on the size. I think that I am programed to be afraid not to use a car seat. I guess I will just have to do what I am comfortable with at the time!

I didn't know that, thanks I learned something new today :thumbsup2

No car seats on the busses. You can fold the stroller and hold the baby though. or use a snuggly. Now keep in mind I always give up a seat for a mother and baby but sometimes, you can hop on a bus and nobody will. And standing with a baby on a bus isn't the safest thing in the world.

If you feel you want to rent a car and have the baby restrained in a car seat, go for it. If not, then ride the bus. It's up to you.

I'm from Jersey too. It's a car seat with a back up until 30lbs, then a booster with the shoulder belt until 8 and at least 80 pounds. And, I am surprised by how many families choose to disregard this.

Going on the buses without car seats concerns me, too, but that's how it is on the Disney buses (no seat belts for anyone). You can choose to use the bus and hold your baby (many do and it's legal)) or you can choose to rent a car and use a car seat. You will need to decide based on your own comfort level, but both options are available.

No matter what, you'll have a great time taking your wee one to the World. Enjoy!

Are you talking about the busses from the resorts to the theme parks or the busses from the airport to the resorts (Magical Express)? Interresort busses do not have anywhere to latch the car seats. Not sure about ME. They are more like tour busses.

As odd as it sounds the reason buses do not have seat belts is for safety reasons.
It is actually safer to ride in a bus without seat belts.
Go figure. :confused3

My son was 6 months old his first Disney trip. We drove to Disney but used the busses exclusively once we were there. His first 2 trips -- to the MK and back from ASMo he screamed the entire way. He was scared to death. He had never ridden in any vehicle without his carseat. Of course, a week later when we put him back into his carseat he screamed for the first hour of our trip home. We stayed off property last trip and drove to the parks so my dd(now 2) didn't get to experience the buses. We will be going in November and I would imagine my then ds5 and dd2 will love the busses.

I know this is very off-topic, but your laws aren't even as strict as it gets. I live in TN and kids are required to be in booster seats until their 9th birthday (not 8th).

In NJ they are required to be in a car seat or a booster until they are 8 - regardless of their size.

And longer, if they aren't 80 lbs by then (if I remember/understand correctly). Fine by me...I'm a bit of a safety freak :) My oldest will be 8 in October, and I'm sure she'll still need her booster for quite awhile -- no where near 80 lbs at this point!

LOL - MY 8 yo is 33 lbs - At this rate he'll be in his booster seat until he starts to drive... :)

My 13 year old DS is 78 lbs. Regardless, he would probably try to deck me if I made him sit in a booster seat with shoulder belt!!
