We are going to Orlando in November 2014 for two weeks staying at OKW, we will be using Disney's free transport must days but were thinking of hiring a car for 7 days in between for days out, Universal, Shopping etc. My daughter will be 5 years 10 months old when we go, at that age can I just take her booster seat from home (bottom only, no back) or do I need a full seat??? Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks
Steve...

I would use what you use here :goodvibes

Technically, a booster only is legal however our DD was 5 years 5 months in December when we went and we took her full high back booster. I fully intend to take that in both April and July next year. :thumbsup2

In actual fact, at the age of 5 they don't legally have to have a booster according to Florida law. But, as Tracy says, just use what you would feel safest with.

from the legal standpoint, a booster seat is ok for a 5 years old. (at 5 or older they only need it if they're too short to safely use the seatbelt, which has to rest nicely on the shoulder like it would do for an adult)

what you need to consider is how comfortable the kid will be.

we tried a simple booster (bottom only) on one trip, and DS was ok, but a little miserable at times, especially when we drove back from parks, at the end of the day, and he fell asleep.
Those are the times when you wish you'd taken the full seat with the back and those very useful "ears" that keep your kid's head at an acceptable angle ... you know, when their butt is on the seat ... and their head ... is on the seat too ... :)

Just out of interest... those of you who buy seats there, what do you do with them at the end of the holiday? do you just leave them in the car when you drop it back?! I've bought 2 cheap boosters that I will pack in a suitcase when we fly out as otherwise they'd have nothing until we got to a shop to buy one. My kids will be 6 and 7 but I can't imagine them not having at least a booster, they're both in very sturdy high back booster type seats here although DD does use just a booster if we have another child in the car. DS I'm still not sure if I'll be happy with him on just a booster as he's very small for his age.

Last year we arrived a few days before our relatives so picked up a seat for when they arrived, I believe they brought it home, not 100% sure as we left them there and flew to New Hampshire for a week.
Year before they took a car seat with them and left it in the rental car at the end of the trip.

There are inflatable seats called bubblebum that comply with european and US regulations. Easy to transport and inflate. I've used one for my daughter a couple of times and loaned it too. You can pick them on ebay for about £20.
