Hi, I am looking for a rental car from Monday, Aug. 11 (10:00 am) returning it on Friday Aug. 15 (6:30 pm). I checked out the info on mousesavers.com and found some very good info. However, these are some questions I have. When putting in coupon codes, and the rate doesn't drop from the reg. rate, does this mean that they won't accept that code, or will be be deducted when I check out the car? Another thing, I found that the time I want to rent one is close enough to being a "weekly" rate, over the daily rate. If I put in return date the 16th (which is a Sat.) is a little cheaper, could I actually reserve it for that date, but then just return it a day earlier? Do they frown on that? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Depends on the rental company. Sometimes the rate given is the rate with the code.
If you return the car a day early and you booked it to get the weekly rate (usually 5 or more days) they will switch it back to the daily rate.

They don't frown on it but as Gail has already posted some agencies will re-calculate your price based on a daily rate and charge you more. Really not that much different than returning the car a day late. Your rate is valid for the rental period on your quote, make changes and the rate will change.

Some agencies require 7 days to get the weekly rate and some 5 days. At one point 4 days plus 2 hours got you 5 days which got you a weekly rate. I'd play around with rates based on your actual stay so you won't be surprised when you return your car.

Sometimes putting in a code will raise your rate before it lowers it to the coupon.

So before you start using codes check to see what the rate would be without one. Then starting checking the codes.

Also if you have AAA try using their site. They give a very good discount at Hertz.

Also as others have mentioned sometimes you will get the weekly rate after 4-5 days. If you bring it back early it changes back to the daily rate. Some agencies mind if you bring it back early because they don't have a place for it. MCO's lots for most of the agencies are very large so I doubt that would be the case but smaller airports have a problem with early returns.

Alamo and National will convert to the daily rate if you bring it back before 5 days and you have reserved for a weekly rate. Did that make sense?
