We are thinking about flying into Altanta to start our vacation by seeing a Cardinals/Braves game and then going on to Orlando. If we were to fly, is anyone aware of any car rental places that would allow us to rent the car in Atlanta and then drop off in Orlando without a hefty fee? The ones I've searched seem to have a fee of around $150 for doing this.

I was just wondering if anyone has ever used a company that didn't charge so much for this?

Thanks!
Becky

What are the dates of your rental? What size car are you looking for?

I can look for you if you provide this info.

All comanies charge drop-off fees at least some of the time. You just have to check each company - AND CHECK EACH CLASS - and see if there is anyone with no fee or low fee.

Last trip to Disney I needed to stop in Miami before flying home. Everyone had stiff fees except for Dollar on a mid-sized car. I would have missed it, since I usually just check the rates for economy. But I accidenty picked mid-sized from the drop box, and low and behold, no fee.

szymon - We would be flying into Atlanta on July 19th and leaving Florida on July 29th. We we be willing to leave from Orlando, Daytona or Jacksonville if that would make any difference.

Thanks!
Becky

Is there anyway you could reverse the order of your travel, and get the rental car in Florida? I know in the springtime the rental car places are looking for people to drive cars north out of Florida.
I had a one-way rental car in California and Nevada. I originally planned on flying to Las Vegas, then driving to DL. But the drop-off fees were so high. I found out, for a couple of the rental agencies, there was no fee if I droppped the car off in Vegas. So I reversed my trip, started it at DL and ended it in Las Vegas. I ended up getting cheaper flights, too, so it really worked well for me.

That is a good idea, but unfortunately it won't work for us because we have ballgame tickets on the 19th in Atlanta and we have to take that next week for our vacation. I will definately remember that for another trip though!

For your dates:

Jacksonville: $389.80 (economy) at Thrifty. They charge a $102.33 drop fee.
Daytona Beach: $442.48 (economy) at Dollar. They charge a $144.36 drop fee.
Orlando: $442.48 (economy) at Thrifty. They charge a $145.43 drop fee.

Some options are renting a car for your time in Atlanta, then rent a 1 day 1 way to get to Florida, and rent in Florida for the remainder of the time. This may be cheaper.

As others have said, the rental car companies are running specials out of Florida hence the high drop rates.

where do they write the drop off fees at cause I have never seen that? Is that taking from state to state.

Blondiex46,

Yes, that was my reply to the original post asking about one ways from Atlanta to Florida.

Dollar and Thrifty clearly specify the fee on their site when you do a quote.
