i am so clueless to this.this is my first time going to florida we are staying at bestwestern lakeside.I have been pricing cars but i have a question how do you find out what the total is it only shows you an estimate.i even called budget and she would only give me an estimate.do all car rentals put a certain amount on hold.we are going to be there from the 11th-16th.would i be better off taking a taxi.it is just me and my two boys.can someone please help!!thanks for reading this

I think that they give you an estimate because you aren't charged until you return the vehicle. If you return the car with no gas you will be charged and of course if you return it damaged that's a whole other mess. However, with that being said, I have never been charged more than the estimate. I have rented cars about 10 different times.

Oh, and there is no deposit required.

i had called budget and the gave me a different price than the internet and of course it was more money but they also said they put a hold of $200 or 35% of the sale which ever was more .thats why i was asking if all of them do the same.thank you

All of the major car rental companies do the same in terms of estimating your final cost and placing a hold on your credit card. Though I think Alamo has a discounted pre-pay option. I'm not sure of the details. If you haven't looked for discounted rates, go to mousesavers.com to find current promos and coupons for the major companies serving Orlando. You might be able to find last minute deals through Budget or one of the other companies assuming your travel dates are in May.

Check Orbitz first for car rentals. This will list all the Orlando companies so you have a besline for comparison. Then go to the comany' website where you can try to enter codes. Reserve something that looks like a decent rate. Then keep looking because you can always cancel a reservation without penalty unless you do a prepay. I have had good luck with Thrifty. It does require a shuttle ride, but its hardly incovenient.

What you have to do to get the full total is proceed through the booking process to the last step. At this point, you will get the whole total including tax, fees, and surcharges. But don't worry, if you stop at this step you will not actually make a ressie (and even if you do accidentally make a ressie, you won't be charged).

This number, too, is always called an estimate, because as Maciec said, the charges could be higher if you incur late fees, damage fees, or gas charges. But as long as you return the car on time, undamaged, and with a full tank, the price you pay will be the estimated price.

Also, when you book on line you don't have to put down a deposit.
