Car rentals for October...

It's not a coupon. It's a discount code. You can use this in addition to a coupon. Put the code in the ID/CORP ID box.

Ah, thank you. I'll try that.

Re: waiting to book--If we want a minivan or mid-size SUV, is this a good idea? When I talked to a TA at AAA in April, she said that all of the minivans rented out by whatever company they use were already rented out!

I just looked at USave car rental for 9/25 to 10/02 and a 12 passenger van was $383!! But I've never used them and I'm curious if anyone has and can tell their experience?

We booked last night and paid $199 all in for a compact car for 1 week (Sat-Sat). Seemed like a good deal.

Time will tell.

I know October is a big convention time in Orlando -- so that could definitely account for the cRaZy car rates. I know our last October trip Priceline never touched the rate I had with National. I'm currently holding a booking with Alamo that I booked back in January. It is a mid-size SUV for $350/total for 10 days. The bummer of it is the times are wrong...and when I go to modify my ressie it shoots my rates to $600-$700  .

I'm praying for a drop as our dates get sooner...or at least an awesome last minute deal!!

Wow that's a great rate! Presently, I have $327 for our 10 day stay at the beginning of October for a compact! I'm hoping for much better rates the closer it gets, but the rental car is the last thing not settled and its hard to ignore it!

It is a good rate...but now it doesn't fit our needs. I have it from noon on our arrival day, which is fine (our plane lands at 11:45am)...but then the return time is noon and our flight doesn't leave until 6pm. I really don't want to spend 6 hrs at the airport :rotfl:. No matter what I do it jacks my rates up. I tried switching the drop off to the car care center at noon...rates went up. I tried switching the time...and the rates went up. I emailed Alamo and they told me too bad, so sad. Nice. My only other option is to return it late and pay the late fees, which will probably jack it up to around $400. I'm praying for a better rate. I'd also like to book through National. We used them our last trip and it was a great experience.

I rented for a week last month in Orlando and prices didn't change much right up until my trip. Ended up using Priceline, got $11/day, which was about $40 better than my previous ressie. I ended up getting Avis.

Its amazing how just changing the times by an hour or two can ruin a perfectly wonderful ressie price.

So, I'm hoping at the end I can turn to Priceline again, but I hate having all this anxiety until then!

Thought I'd dig up this old thread and see if anything new has popped on the scene yet. So far I try Priceline like crazy and have gotten no good news. Ugh. I'm still holding my old ressie, and Airtran changed our flight time by an hour and a half (leaving sooner) so I might just go in and see what their late fee is...though I wish they had that information on their website.

What's everyone else finding??

Honestly, I haven't even looked yet. Airtran has moved my flight so many times, I think it's getting it's own frequent flyer miles. I made them cancel and moved to Friday night, so now my car rental situation will be different. Last year if I recall, they stayed high until early September when they started to come down.

I posted on another thread but thought it might be worth reposting here if it helps anyone. I have checked on a number of codes and the best rental we found was at Avis using code K199060(found on mousesavers and is a florida tourism code) and coupon code MUWA003 for their 35.00 off weekly rental. I am renting a Standard SUV for one week and this was the best rate I found. With the coupon it will come to around 305.00 out the door. The coupon cannot be used on Sub Compact but can be used on compact if you are interested in a smaller car.

:: waves to Erica ::

totally agree with the bolded. rates didn't drop in the past until September. With that said, it seems like the base rates started lower than I'm seeing now.

I'm not sure, but did I read something about it being cheaper to rent on property now? is there some sort of deal with the airport and fees?

do you need to show anything for the florida tourism code?

According to mousesavers you just need the code. I trust the mousesavers site as only she puts the codes on the website. I will be traveling there first week in august and will let you know how it goes.

FYI: I was playing around with some codes on Alamo for 10/3-10/11 about a week ago. I ended up getting it a Compact for that time frame for $239 total. Now if I put in the same codes it is over $300 so I guess I looked on a good day! I found my codes at:
http://www.rentalcodes.com/

Anyway one thing I noticed with playing around that it was much cheaper to get my car through the Alamo spot at the Dolphin than at the airport. We are staying at the Beach Club so the Dolphin is convenient for us. I am just going to use the ME to and from the airport and then get my car at the Dolphin and save money not to mention I can check-in my luggage and all that at the resort!

So if you don't NEED the car at the airport maybe check the car care center or Dolphin for Alamo and possibly get a cheaper rate. They have shuttles to all the resorts to get you to and from. HTH!
