Hello everyone! Does anyone have any tips for saving money on car Rentals? There will be 6 of us neither family has a car that will accomodate 6 people. I have checked all the car rental places i could find and for the amount of time we need it the cost would be around 700+ dollars ( of course that will be split) but still trying to find ways to cut cost where i can. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

In the past year or so, car rentals have seemed to gone toward the heavens.

Prices are often way up there, unless you want to rent on a February weekend in Minnesota :rotfl2:

For someone who really wants to go the lazy(ish) route, I would suggest checking hotwire for your dates/location.

Then, try to beat their price by around 20 percent...whether that be by bidding on Priceline or checking out the usual suspects....Expedia, Travelocity, the car rental sites themselves.

No real magic. It is easy to get a high price, to get a cheap rate you have to check all the sites constantly and forever be looking for coupons, promos, codes. Check the transportation board here on disboards for various deals that come along.

Other than that, it is plain slogging along....:surfweb:

Most rental car places have some kind of codes going. Check the transportation board here, they usually have them.

Also, try looking through anything you have a membership with - credit union, costco, SW usually has deals if you book with their card, AAA, etc.

Thank you to everyone for your help with this! My husbands employer has codes they gave them but for some reason it didnt change the price hardly any at all. Is there somewhere reputable that you all go to look for the codes or do you just google. I will also check out the transportation board. Thanks again everyone!

Are you a Costco member? Through Costco Travel online, we got a great deal on an 1 week rental for an intermediate size SUV, $350. That is $200 less than any other quote I got. And it includes an additional driver at no extra cost.
