I have always paid for the platinum car insurance and now looking at not paying extra for this but wondered what happens with the petrol?

Normally i pre pay for the tank so not sure what happens?

Seen a good quote with budget but only ever used dollar! Are these any good?

You return it empty and they charge you an extortionate amount for a tank of petrol. Or, as has happened with us a couple of times, you return it full and they still charge you an extortionate amount for a tank of petrol

Seriously, you need to check the Ts&Cs but, usually, if you don't pre-purchase, you sign to say that you agree to return the car empty and they can then charge your credit card for a full tank. Sometimes, if you ask they will allow you to return it full instead but you need to amke sure that when you then return it they acknowledge that there is a full tank and, when they give you the little printout, that there is no outstanding amount to pay.

Ok so now i dont know what o do or what company to book with!

Wayne usually knows where the really good deals are.

have you checked alamo.uk? i booked with them last month and was very happy with the rate.
it included the tank of petrol and 3 additional free drivers.

Alamo want nearly 400for an intermediate suv which i think is a bit steep

Alos i have noticed prices going up this week as $ rate has dropped, need to book a car today before it costs anymore money

Each rental is different, for eg booking Alamo via Expedia as I did last Easter you have no option but to pay for a tank at the desk on arrival, it was in my T&C's, I was happy with that as the price they charged which was about 3 cents per gallon lower than Hess, only downside is they charge you by manufacturers tank size, you are never going to use everything in the tank and run out, they probably average 2-3 gallons left in every car so they are quids in.

What dates you looking for, there were some great deals earlier in the year, not seen any bargains recently.

the minivan we rented had loads of room!!! would be very easy to use with car seats and buggies.

it was a town and country - beautiful with a dreamy ride!!!
and it had sliding doors on both sides of the car - really good for car seat use.

I used to have one of those here but it was so juciy on petrol!

I used to have one of those here but it was so juciy on petrol!

the one we had was flexible - you could use regular petrol or ethanol..

in any case, it was so new (it only had 6,000 miles on it) it really didn't use a lot of petrol at all.

we had it for 2 weeks and i drove it a LOT (including to maitland florida - an hour's drive from WDW) !!
we drove it constantly inside WDW and outside (to universal, to maitland, etc).

i only had to fill it up once during the two weeks.

Mine was lovely but a few years old and i needed a travelling petrol garage next to me! Changed it last weekend for a scenic instead but do miss it

i drive a honda jazz - great mileage, but i don't think you'd get your twins into one :goodvibes

DS drives a honda insight (a hybrid) - he gets spectacular mileage.

www.usrentacar.co.uk have got a SUV with Alamo for £332 (£398 for Gold rate) or a minivan with Dollar for £345.75 (£402 for Gold rate).

I didn't know the driver's age so put it in as 30. I don't think the age makes any difference over the age of 30 anyway.

Link here to the results - hire from 19th Oct to 2nd Nov, pick up and drop off from MCO at 3pm. Obviously, if any of those details are incorrect it may be slightly different.

ETA, it looks as thought you can get an intermediate 4 door with free upgrade to full size 4 door for £286 with Budget (£346 for Gold)

We were the same with the 7 seater we had, only filled it once in 2 weeks, incl a trip to Busch, expected to fill it more.

Joh I am finding US a bit expensive this year., still need checking though, there might be a bargain on there but £332 is on the high side.

Auto Europe seem to be cheapest for the SUV 273.50 GBP less 7% Quidco = £254.35

I used them for our 1st rental (7 seater) last month, it was with Dollar.

Thanks wayne, they use alamo, dollar and budget but how do i know whatone i get? Should i worry about budget? Only ever used dollar

They list under different names, the 3 intermediate SUV's are:
Ford Escape or similar
Ford Escape 2x4 or similar
Chevy Trailblazer 2x4 or similar

The cheapest is usually Dollar, then Budget then Alamo.
My only issue with Budget was I had to argue for the free upgrade, not an issue for you, no free upgrade involved. I would be happy to rent from them again but I am 90% sure the cheapest is Dollar. I did lots of reading before booking with them and every one got Dollar.

Thanks wayne, went with netflights in the end as after cashback was slightly cheaper with the platinum insurance

Got a ford escape or similar 331 and then cash back so hopefully all goes smoothly
