I did a 5 day trip at WDW and this worked for me.

The car rentals are cheaper off airport than on airport. I rented with Enterprise. They pick up at Disney property and take you to their facility. (At a hotel near DTD)

I took ME to Disney. The next day I took the DT is MK. In my opinion, DT is better to MK than a car. The second day was AK by DT. The third day I was picked up at POP by Enterprise at 8 or 8:30 (whenver they open). I had the car and was in EPCOT before 10am. That night I was bale to drive to Boardwalk. Since I was at Boardwalk late, w/o a car I would have had to take a taxi to POP (about the price of the car) or a bus to MK and then another bus to POP (LONG TRIP). Next day was car to HS and dinner out. Day after that I returned the car and Enterprse drove me right into EPCOT. Then it was DT back to POP at end of the day and ME to MCO

All in all I only had to pay 2 days rental and with advance reservations, it cost me under $50 (yes a small car but never moved luggage). It also gave me a chance to go off property to do some shopping

If you are there for a short time, probably not worth the effort, but I did not lose much park time and I gained teh Boardwalk, a dinner out and shopping

ONE IMPORTANT NOTE: If you rent with Enterprise call 5 days in advance to reserve your pickup or this wont work. If they cant pick you up at 8am, it doesnt make sense. There is no logic in doing a mid day pick up and the close at liek 4pm
