My sister is travelling from the UK to Orlando and has booked her flight and car rental through Netflights.co.uk. I think the rental is with Thrifty. she has paid for the full insurance package but my question is if I want to drive as an additional driver wll it be okay with a Canadain Drivers license? I have CAA insurance which covers me to drive a rental car without taking any of the car companiese additional insurance.:confused3

Any help would be great....Thanks!

Yes, you should be able to drive, assuming you are 21 and have a full (not graduated or conditional) drivers license. However, it will cost you a couple things:
1. Additional driver charges, which can be anywhere from $5 to $25 per day. (The additional driver may complicate the original insurance clause. Even though you are covered through CAA, the insurance clause that covers your sister may have language that requires additional drivers to be living in her household in the UK. You don't want to void her insurnace by adding you as a driver.)
2. Time at checkout. The time it takes to process a second driver can add up to 20 minutes to the rental pick-up, depending on the staff speed, effort and experience. It might be more complicated as the additional driver does have the same address (or country of residence) as the primary driver.

It's a bit confusing. But I think the insurance is from the renters insurance. I don't think your CAA insurance will cover, as you aren't main renter.
I have that insurance thru CAA also, so I am always the one who is the main renter. We never pay additional insurance.

Its really frustrating, when she called her UK tour operator that she booked it with they said it should be 'no problem!" but to check their website. We did and it clearly states no US or Canadian licence, but if you could use an international drivers licence.:confused3

So I can get an international licence from the US as the one from the CAA can't be used in North America or we may just cancel her booking and book it direct through a North American tour operator.

Crazy but if we book it with the North American operator they don't care where your licence is from!

My advice.....Always read the small print!

Her booking already had additional driver included and she could pre-register on-line and then just pick the car up!

This is causing more stress than it should!
