Car Rental Question

You know how they ask you what time you will pick-up and drop off? How important is it for you to make the arranged time?

The reason I ask is because I'm flying Airtran, and as you all know they can be very unpredictable with flight time changes and even cancelations. I'm affraid to book a car for a certain day and time and not be able to make it.

They usually give you a grace period of 60 minutes. But if you feel you will be later than that I would book the car for a later time. You can always pick it up earlier. Then just have them alter you drop off time to match the time you picked the car up.
Example. Flight due to land at 3:00 p.m. I would reserve the car for 4:30 or 5:00 and if you happen to get there and get the car at say 3:30 have your drop off time adjust to be 3:30 on you return date.
I would take the phone number to the rental car company with you just encase you need to call them. I have gotten bumped off my flight many times and have had to call the rental company to adjust the pick up time.

when I rent - the company will typically ask for airline and flight number. I would hope they use it to check to see if there is a delay - but I doubt it.
