I'm noticing that some are opting to rent a car rather than use transfers. So are you renting from the airport and dropping off at the port, then renting another car at the port to take back to the airport; or are you renting from the airport, parking at the port and returning it to the airport?

We're flying down friday morning and renting a car from Budget ($40). We're then driving to cocoa beach and staying at the marriott over night. Saturday morning we'll get up returned the car to hte Budget port location and take their shuttle to the port.

The Saturday we get back we are renting another car from budget. Their shuttle will come pick us up at the port and take us to the car. Then we're going to DTD for the morning and afternoon. Then returned the car to MCO. Our flight doesn't leave until 845pm so we have a while.

If you're thinking about doing this definitly check out www.dcltribute.com He's got awesome reviews of car rentals and hotels in the area. Also there's directions to the port from MCO.

It worked fairly easily -- we used Avis and pick up at the airport was a breeze. The Avis location in Cape Canaveral is pretty small, and they get backed up if there is only one person at the desk. I think we ended up paying $50 the day we arrived and $35 for our return. I probably could have got better rates if I made reservations earlier or shopped some bargains (mousesavers, etc.) I needed to use the same company as others in our party to reduce confusion, so I didn't look too hard.

The day we sailed, DH dropped us at the terminal and then went to return the car. The shuttle looked like it was going to take forever, so DH hopped a cab back to the terminal. When the ship returned, Disney had clearly marked areas for each of the rental car companies. We had just missed the shuttle, so it took about 10-15 minutes until the next one came. It took a little while to return the car because of staffing -- only one person at the desk. But not too bad.

I would consider doing Disney transportation, if the cost wasn't too crazy and if I was certain I'd get to the terminal in plenty of time. We were among the first ones there and I really appreciated that.

We are planning on spending 2 nights at a WDW resort before our cruise, it seems the rental car may be a cheaper option than the transfers. If you bring your own car, do you have to pay to park at the resorts? If you stay at the resort is there free transportation to the parks?

Is Cape Canaveral the same as Port Canaveral?

Thanks!
