Hello all,

We're flipping back and forth whether we should rent a car for this trip. They'll be 5 of us, including two car seats. As none of us three adults are piglet sized enough to fit between the two car seats in the back, we'd need a 3 row car (minivan or large suv). I mention this because it might limit where we can rent from as not all locations carry these cars.

With the two kids we plan on using DME, so no stopping at baggage claim.

So, this is our plan:
DME to POR
Lunch at POR
Boat trip to DTD
Guest relations to activate our military salute tickets
Disney Quest
Dinner at Wolfgang tableservice (the one on the DDP)
Back to POR

Given this DTD itinerary, when would be the best place to go pick up a rental car, and are there any walking distance from where we'll be? Will any of the locations pick us up?

Thanks for the help!

Dollar is just across the street from the main bus stop at DTD. Both they and Alamo/National at Car Care Center will pick you up at POP, just call ahead.
And I mean call ahead, they may have a pickup van in your area or they may not and that will take time to get there.

All of the above show 7 place vans on their web sites, we are renting from Dollar for the first time on Saturday and I plan on either callling or perhaps just taking bus to DTD and walking across the street.

Thanks,

I like how close Dollar is!

Maybe can help us figure out whether to rent or not.

We have DD9, DS9months, and grandpa is 70, so the most important thing for us is ease of travel. We'll have a rather large stroller for DS.

This is what we're thinking:
Bus cons: waiting, squeezing in, may not get a seat
Car cons: having to walk from the car to the parks, and back again when we're all tired. Also, having to fold the stroller to take the tram, unfold it to walk from the tram stop to the car, and then fold it up again. And, for MK, need to take the monorail or boat, while the bus is door to door.

What does everyone thing would be less of a pain?

If it matters for crowd reasons, we'll be there Dec. 12-19.

Thanks.

Have you used buses before?
The first time we went to the world we stayed at Caribean and used buses, since have always used rental cars. If you can afford the car I would go with a car, but if not then it's the buses for you.
I would rather use a tram to my car than wait in line late at night for a bus. That 1st trip using the buses... well lets just say I really don't like to wait for a bus only to have it fill up and then wait for another. Late at night kids are sleeping or trying to, people, especially me well I get cranky at night waiting.

I won't tell you what is best for you, just tell you what I would do. Money often makes these decisions for us.

Budget Rental is located at the Doubletree Guest Suites across from DTD.
If you can afford the car, and can get one that fits your group, go for it.
You're going to have to fold up the stroller when you get on the bus and then unfold it when you get to resorts/parks...not much difference in folding it up for the tram.

The car gives you freedom...to maybe go to the grocery, or one of a million places offsite where kids go free.

You should be able to get a coupon code online to drop the price down.

remember, a bottled water at disney is $2.50, a case of 24 at Publix is $3.99 (that's $60.00 bucks worth of water!). Pick up some snacks, fruit, drinks and breakfast stuff and you paid for the rental!

hmmm...what is worse, waiting for the tram or for the bus....still got that stoller issue either way...in less you drive like jeff gordon the ride wont be as scary....and you will only have two annoying, tired, cranky, sleepy kids having a meltdown in the car!

Well, we're getting the car. You convinced us!

We're getting it from Dollar. And, with a promo code from mousesavers, we're getting a minivan for $227 for the week. ($263 with tax)

And, that is NOT a typo!

:woohoo:
