Car Rental for August (Must be doing something wrong)

Hello -

I've been reading everyones threads about getting a good deal for a rental car in August and i just must be doing something wrong.

I usually never wait this long to book a car and now i have sticker shock.

our dates are 8/11-8/20 with a pick up of 3pm and drop off at 3pm at MCO airport. I can not really find anything below $500

It's our DATES! First off, I'm very luck to have gotten a great deal a couple of months ago. That deal is long gone. I happened to be checking Alamo and they were offering minivans for cheap...along with other cheap choices. I got one for a total of $266 without adding a coupon.

Ever since then the price has been going up and up. My dates are similar to yours with a pick up of Aug. 12 and drop off Aug. 19. MCO both ways. Well we know the coupon does not work for our dates and does start working for the week after us!

Seems there are good deals for the folks picking up the week before us and the week after us, so our week must be very popular. I'm guessing there are alot of folks going the same time and trying to get that trip in before school starts.

yikes, makes me worry that its gonna be crowded that week...

i did check hotwire again this morning and got $26.95 a day. ended up being around $330 for the 9 days.

It was $36.95 a day last night.

Alamo had a deal earlier today on their website for an extra $45 off weekly rentals

Just used priceline for my Sept trip and got a full size from Alamo using name your own price for $12 a day! I always use priceline and have always done well!

There's been a little movement for our timeframe. You might want to check your dates/prices again. Not great, but better than before...but the dang coupons still don't work for our dates.
