They are offering me "supplemental insurance" and "loss damage" insurance do I need these? Does my regular car insurance cover me?

N one else can answer that question for you.

It depends on what your coverage is in your insurance policy and also what coverage you will get from the credit card you use for the car rental.

You should check your insurance policy and/or with your insurance company and also with your credit card company.

We could all tell you our experiences, but we cannot know what your particular coverage is in your plan.

I've been told that as long as you have full coverage (comprehensive and collision) on your car at home there is no need to get the extra insurance from the rental company. What they might tell you is that it saves you from paperwork if you get in an accident with the rental. Also they'll as that with the coverage that if you have an accident you won't have to worry about your rates!:scared1: Those are just tactics to try to add $15 or more per day to your rental rates!

You do need to check with your own insurance company to be sure you are indeed covered driving a rental car.

Some companies* reserve the right not to rent to you if you decline their loss/collision coverage and also do not have proof of collision insurance on your own car back at home. But most don't.

You can rely on the coverage provided by a credit card if you wish to.

Most credit card rental car coverage is secondary; that is, your own insurance company pays first and whatever is left over (such as the deductible) is picked up by the credit card company. It is true that your insurance rate could go up if you were at fault.

Payless, L&M, EZ to name a few.

I called my insurance company, they said I am all set to decline the extra, they cover me. I also called my Visa who said they also cover me.

My rental car company charges 10 dollars per day extra to have another driver listed on the car (over 25) and my insurance company said as long as the other driver is insured w full coverage there is no need to pay the extra 10 bucks a day to have them listed on the car. My insurance company did, however, tell me to make sure any tiny scratch ding or dent is listed on the check out form, and make sure they check it back in with no damage. He said there has been a huge rise in car rental companies trying to charge for damage. So i will save all my papewrwork.
