Car rental at Hilo

Does anyone know if the major car rental companies pick up passengers from the port who pre-booked a car at the Hilo airport? I read somewhere that the airport is about 5-10 minutes away from the port. We're booked in October, so there's plenty time to make arrangements.

When we did this on RCI they did but there was a long line at the airport counter. They also close early we had to have the car there by 5 if we wanted a ride to the ship. Our ship did not leave until 8 pm.

We did a Hawaiian cruise years ago and booked all our car rentals through Thrifty (though I think we used Dollar in Kona) and we were picked up at the port. It is a good idea to become a BLue Chip member (free) because you got front of the line rental access and always got to go on their tranportation (from port to rental site) first.

We just returned from a Hawaii cruise. All the major rental car companies had shuttles at the port when we arrived.

we did the same in 2010 in Honolulu, kauai, and Maui (Kahului). We would have done the same in Hilo but the price was a lot higher for renting cars at that port. We did Ricky's Tours instead.

While waiting for our shuttle we always saw most of the other major car rental shuttles pull up too. At all ports we rented we didn't need to call for service.
