Ugh, my plan was to use my husband's AmEx rewards for a $200 car rental coupon, but I just realized that we only have about 15,000 points, and there is no way we'll get that up to 20,000 points in the next month or two.

Now I have to start looking for a cheap rental for February. Do you think I should wait until January for deals or start looking now?

Also, any ideas on how I could use those 15,000 points for this trip? We already have the flight booked.

OOPS! Never mind. I just found out that you don't need 20,000 points. You can get a $50 certificate for 5,000 points, i.e. $150 with 15,000 points.

When I called AmEx, I also asked about the Disney breakfasts (3,500 points each). Sounds like you can use that certificate at any of the resorts for one breakfast entree, one juice, on hot beverage and one danish. Doesn't sound worth it to me. Maybe for a character breakfast at someplace more expensive.

Hi --I have used both of the certificates you are talking about. I thought the breakfast cert was a good break from reaching into my wallet. Yes, you are right that you have to pick a more expensive breakfast to make it worthwhile. You can use it at some places that are worth it.

Car certs are great, and have used them many times.
