Hi there!

This is my second time time going to WDW and my first time renting a car for anything! I only have liability insurance with my personal car. Should I buy insurance from the rental car company? If so, what kind? What suggestions do you guys have? I don't want to buy unneccessary insurance, but I also don't want to be held responsible if someone dings the car in the parking lot. I would really appreciate your help!

Thanks!

Lynn

If you have no physical damage coverage on your insurance policy, then you would be responsible for damage to the car that was your fault (or you couldn't prove it was someone else's fault). Do you have a gold or platnium credit card? Some provide secondary physical damage coverage that may kick in if you do not have your own. Otherwise, I would buy the rental co insurance because it would not be worth the chance of totaling a $15,000-$25,000 car.

Check the fine print of your credit card to see what kind of rental car coverage (if any) it has. There are many kinds of damages, collision damage, loss of use while in the repair shop, diminution of later resale value beacuase it was in an accident, etc.

If you don't have collision on your own car (perhaps because it is old) and you are satisfied with what your credit card will cover for you, steer clear of rental companies who reserve the right to demand that ou buy their coverage if you don't have bring a policy page that shows you already have it. Their policies or rules page on the web (also on Travelocity) will tell you this.

Check with your own insurance company. If you live in New York and have car insurance in your name and are renting a car in your name, you have covered under you policy if you have collision or not.

Thanks everyone! I guess I'll call my insurance company in the morning to see what they can tell me. I have a Visa with a $1500 limit, so I am thinking I'm probably not covered through them. I'm also not quite 25, so this car is getting pretty expensive.... :rolleyes: I'm staying at Renassaince World Gate though and their shuttle times are ridiculous, I don't think we really have a choice. It's still cheaper than taking a taxi at least...

Thanks!

>>> Your'e not quite 25?

Some rental companies demand that underage drivers buy their collision coverage.

I do not recommend Priceline or Hotwire for you. You do not want to find out that they fail to honor your bid unless you add on more money for insurance you don't want. Or find out that the company accepting your bid charges way too much for the insurance you do want so that it exceeds a normal reservation.
