car insurance on rentals

HI! we are ging to be renting a car when we get to WDW and i'm not sure what the deal with insurance is. last time we went they told us how high the accident rate in fla is & pretty much scared us into getting the insurance. (we dont have full coverage on our cars at home) this time i'm wondering if we can be a bit smarter about it... do you get insurance when you rent?? is it really necessary? thanks

You will be renting with a credit card, correct?

Check with your credit card company about rental car insurance. Many of the cards carry insurance for such things. Check with your insurance agent about your personal insurance as well. When you say you don't carry full coverage on your own autos I presume you carry full liability insurance and then little or nothing on damage. Check with your agent because they can tell you if that applies for your rental car as well.

I never get the rental insurance (you could buy insurance for what they charge) because both my credit cards and my personal carrier cover me.
