car insurance for learner drivers?

Trying to find car insurance for DD that won't cost me the price of three-bedroom semi!

Okay, slight exaggeration, but does anyone know of insurance companies I could try?

Been There - done that with DS. You will probably find it slightly 'cheaper' as boys are seen as a higher risk.

Try Tesco.com or Diamond Insurance (women only). My neice recently insured her own car - she is 18 with Diamond as they were the cheapest (relatively speaking!!!!)

Hilary - don't know if you've already done this anyway, but have you made her an "extra" driver on your insurance rather than a "named" person in her own right?

I know when we learnt to drive my mum found it a lot cheaper to do this.

I've tried both having DD as main driver and me named, and vice versa, and there's not a lot in it (I'd assumed it would be cheaper if the policy was in my name), so we'll probably put it in hers as then she'll, hopefully, at least build up some no claims in her own right.

Haven't checked Diamond, so will whizz off and try them now Tesco had been recommended to us as good for young drivers, but they weren't giving us much luck So far, Churchill have come up with the best price ...

Have you teid Direct line, I was with them when I was learning to drive & they were the cheapest. I'm with tesco now though.

We used www.elephant.co.uk for DD and they were by far the cheapest. Part of one of the larger insurance companies (Admiral I think it was) as well which put my mind at rest as I had never heard of them before.
